  7. NEW PRODUCT! Nov 2014 - Movement for Memory Care 3-pak When it comes to engaging memory care (MC) residents, the challenges are unique from day-to-day and .....from person-to-person. Those chanllenges can be overwhelming, and are likely to be compounded in a situation such as an activity/exercise class when it is not just about enjoyment... but about safety and effectiveness. The benefits (e.g. improved strength, flexibility, balance, etc.) associated with such classes are many, and are essential for basic daily function...regardless of age or ability. The human body is designed to move, and movement often becomes difficult in later years, as in the case of our MC residents. Movement for Memory Care is designed to create feelings of success as your residents perform the gentle movements found within each title. The reminiscent tunes will bring smiles to their faces while the on-screen peer presence will serve to keep them engaged. They will also appreciate the instructor's communication style as well as her personal touch. Titles are segmented, and are safe done individually or consecutively. The movements are demonstrated in a clear-and-concise manner AND...are safe, fun and effective. * Tai Chi Made Easy (3-18 min. segments) provides a modified version of the FitXpress Easy Tai Chi title; an adaptation of an evidence-based program developed at the Oregon Research Institute (2002). This title is made up of 3 identical segments, 18 min. each, with varying sound options. *Movement Made Simple (4-10 min. segments) consists of functional movements and stretches, all of which are done to a variety of reminiscent-type piano tunes. *Simply Stretch (2-15 min. segments) gently combines the elements of flexibility with a healthy dose of relaxation. Again...the background tunes allow for reminiscence. Visit the Activity Store to purchase your copy..

  19. Visit http://www.tymtest.com/ ////////////////////////////////////////// NOTE: This website is for health professionals only The TYM testThe TYM test is a new cognitive test comprising of 10 tasks presented on 2 sides of a single sheet of soft card. Most people take about 5 minutes to complete the TYM. The test can be completed under supervision from a health professional. The maximum score is 50/50. The average TYM score for normal individuals is 47/50 up until the age of 70 years and then there is a small decline. The TYM test has several features which should help the diagnosis and management of patients with memory problems: The patient fills in the test themselves. This saves time. The TYM test is a permanent self-written record of a patient’s achievement on a certain date and can be referred back to. The TYM tests 10 different cognitive domains including anterograde memory, semantic knowledge and visuospatial skills which are typically affected early in Alzheimer’s disease. There is a very clear distinction between the scores of normal controls (average 47/50) and patients with mild AD (average 33/50). A cut off of 42 has a sensitivity of 93% and specificity of 86% in the diagnosis of AD in our study. It is powerful in detecting mild Alzheimer's disease detecting 93% of cases in our study. The results of giving the TYM test to 139 patients with organic memory problems and 540 controls has been published in the BMJ (ref: 2009;338:b2030) – www.bmj.com

  25. From Glunz Ocean Beach Hotel & Resort So one of our owners Judi was walking on the beach this morning cleaning up the junk that washed into shore and finds a bottle with a message in it. There is also some sand and 2 one dollar bills. Once we get it open and read the notes we find out that it is in fact NOT sand. It is the ashes of this woman's husband of 70 years named Gordon. She writes that He loved to travel so she sent him traveling in a bottle with a note and money for someone to call home and tell her where he landed. He started at Big Pine Key in March of 2012 and then went to Islamerada where someone found him. They added a note and sent him traveling again and he landed on our beach in Key Colony. Judi called the wife in Tennessee who was excited to know of Gordon's travels! Judi added her note, we put him in a rum bottle (you know added a little fun to his trip) with the three notes. We added another dollar in case Gordon travels far and a long distance call is needed. We will be having a memorial service or celebration of his life on our beach later today before sending him on his way again. Only our sister could find a dead guy on our beach! This is an amazing true story
