Hey Doug, You are more than welcome on the Activity Directors Network.
Outside entertainment is a special treat for most residents in Long Term Care.. Best thing you can do is to provide cities you cover, pictures, links, descriptions, pricing (keep it as low as possible), setup equipment required and possibly offer an option to allow the AD and the facility to sell tickets as a fundraiser, offer Ad material, press kits for the paper...
thanks for being a part of our Network.. Pennie

Hi
A couple of thoughts ---
1. do you need to worry about the privacy issue?
2. Or would the form residents sign upon admission for pictures beign taken & posted cover you on this?
3. This would be a great way to share residents involvement with family members, if your camcorder let you copy onto DVD's etc..
4. Plus how many times do you get family members coming to you saying you never get mom out or she says she stays in her room (trying to lay a guilt trip on family) just pull the old video out & should them mom in action
Just a few scattered thoughts ---

My kids are in their 20's as well. They enjoy computer's -- so if your facility has access to these they could do email, games etc. They also enjoy DVD movies. Especially the boxed sets. Music is a big thing & both enjoy reading.
Basically they enjoy what your res do but on a different level & maybe not always with the elder res I like the ideal of asking volunteers to come in as well as asking them to help you. But I figure if they are in the facility then it may not be possible that they could help. Lets us know what you find they enjoy.

Hi All...I wanted to share an email I received from an AD in California,
" I wanted to share with you my story. I have spent the past 33 years as an Activity Director in Long
Term Care.
I first began as a Psych Aide at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital in Kansas,
in 1976.
...about one year later I moved back to California to work at Birdhaven
Christian Convalescent Hospital in Downey, Ca.
From there I worked at Starting Point of Orange County,
then on to Mt. Olivette Care Center in Carmichael, Ca.
From there I went to El Camino Convalescent Hospital, and so on......
so many times the company would change hands...change Administrators,
change policies....as much as I loved it all, it was very hard work. Getting
close to people and blessing them on their journey home, the demands of the state, and or Administration.
I did take breaks in between to raise four children and some time out for me. I am back in the field now,
with all the same challenges except I am an Activity Coordinator II, part-time, for Catholic Healthcare
West.
I am also attending The California Institute of Healing, Arts and Science, to Graduate in May
with my Holistic Health Degree.
I completely understand the challenges of our work. Now my goal in life is
to help people not get there!! Help them acheive a ripe old age thru Hollistic Health.
My heart goes out to those in the medical field...patients, families, friends and staff!

Buddy Gurganus has a request of the AD Networking group.
-- He is starting a christian radio program this Saturday.
-- It will be on 88.3 at from 12:15 to 1:00.
First he would like us to spread the word, about the program, to our residents, family and friends. He would, also, like each of us to send a list of our residents that have birthdays in January. He will put all the names into a drawing and he will announce one winner each week of the month, on his Saturday program. He will, also, send the winner a bouquet of flowers. If you have any residents 100 years old or older he would like to interview them for his program.
You can e-mail your list to buddy_g@sbcglobal.net
If you have any questions you can contact Buddy at 281-250-2161 or 281-288-9664.
