Get a MOVE on!
Challenge higher functioning older adults to get fit and stay active!
There's nothing like a Latin beat to make people want to get moving. This invigorating routine incorporates the energy of Latin music into a workout challenging enough to provide an exercise option for the higher functioning folks in your group. Benefits include improved posture, balance, strength, flexibility, heart & lung function and overall body awareness. If you are ready for Get a Move On, you are ready to turn the fun on!.
Have FUN...Get FIT!
Get folks excited about fitness with this invigorating workout routine suited for all levels of mobility!
Have Fun, Get Fit! focuses on low to moderate intensity exercises and includes a bonus muscle workout and steps to put together an effective plan to create greater physical function in your group. Your group will be clapping and stomping and breaking a sweat all while improving strength and flexibility. This routine is demonstrated at various intensities in an effort to accommodate the needs of low, mid, and high-functioning participants. Instruction is provided throughout for proper posture, breathing, and technique for a safe and effective workout.
Have a BALL!
As the title suggests, exercise doesn't have to be a chore – you can increase physical functioning in your group and have fun doing it!
All you need to get started are inexpensive inflatable balls (we like the brightly colored beach variety) and you are on your way to increasing mobility, balance, and strength in your group. Learn how to get optimum results by throwing and bouncing the ball around with a dose of stompin', clappin', hooting', and hollerin' added in the spirit of putting the fun into function!
These exercises, when performed consistently, serve to increase overall body awareness - empowering participants to improve posture and lung function, enhance strength and flexibility and achieve better balance. This DVD focuses on low to moderate intensity exercises and has a bonus balance-related segment designed to bring participants to a better understanding of what affects our balance and what we can do to improve it! These exercises are done sitting and standing with motivations for lower mobility participants.
CHAIR YOGA
Increase flexibility and create greater physical and mental awareness!
Chair Yoga is an excellent way to encourage physical improvement for all levels of ability. The exercises move at a casual pace and are subtle and undemanding enough to be practiced by those with impaired mobility. Don't be fooled by the ease of these exercises, though; they can increase flexibility and improve mobility in higher functioning seniors as well!
This 35 minute mind and body exercise routine will benefit posture, flexibility and mobility, range-of-motion in and around major joints and enhanced core strength and body awareness of participants. The experience has proven for many to be an effective opportunity to relax and become rejuvenated, while learning to understand and integrate the concept of balancing the energy between body and mind.
CHAIR PILATES
Exercise doesn't have to be stressful and exhausting. Increase fitness participation using Pilates, a calming and low impact exercise discipline.
Rather than rushing participants through a jarring, fast-paced exercise routine, leaving them tired and unsettled, introduce them to Pilates, which focuses on breathing and body alignment and effective movement rather than repetitive movement. Participants will get a workout and feel rejuvenated.
Chair Pilates is a 35 minute DVD mind and body exercise production that emphasizes core strength. The array of benefits associated with performance of Pilates include improved posture and alignment, greater flexibility and mobility, increased range-of-motion in and around major joints as well as enhanced body awareness.
Proper posture and effective breathing patterns are reinforced throughout the work out along with emphasis on harmony of mind, body, and breath. These exercises are performed in a chair to the tune of calming, peaceful Pilates-style music, and are appropriate for anyone regardless of age or capability
8-form EZ Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a mind and body discipline. The 8-form EZ Tai Chi is one of the very simplest. It can be performed in a chair or in a standing position, needs no equipment, is done in as little as 3-5 minutes and is appropriate for any age and/or capability.
Tai Chi serves to improve balance, flexibility, and mobility, to reduce pain and discomfort associated with arthritis and to increase range-of-motion in and around major joints. It also aids in enhancing overall body awareness and balancing the energy between the mind and the body.
The routine, which consists of 8 forms, or movement sequences, is performed three times to cater to beginners and advanced students alike. The first section demonstrates each of the 8 forms, the second section is a slow paced walk through of each of the forms with narration, and the third section shows the 8 forms performed at the proper pace. Each section is demonstrated standing and sitting simultaneously, making it an excellent resource for those leading groups with varied levels mental and physical functioning.
Music in MOTION
It's easy to encourage fitness using this fun routine with a funky country flair!
Although this fun and functional workout does not leave the seat, it serves well to get almost anyone moving! Benefits include improved heart and lung function, increased strength, flexibility and overall body awareness. This particular title was designed to suit the needs of those who do not have the ability to come up to a standing position to exercise. Be aware that this does not suggest it cannot be an effective workout for others as well!
BONUS!...FIT FOCUS X 4
Fit Focus X4, our signature exercise production is a 50 minute, 4 segment interactive and informative exercise routine designed to provide the basics for anyone wanting to simply inprove their existing level of fuctional fitness. Each segment plays essential role in empowering the participant to a higher level of fuctional fitness including a brief expalnation of the dollowing benefits of each segment: 1) The 5 FUNdamentals of FUNctional FITness demostrated and explained in detail. 2) The basics of developing muscle stength and endurance using resist-a-bands. 3) Safely streching form head-to-toe for improved flexibility and mobility. 4) Learning to take time-out to relax and release stress at any time of the day.

Hi everyone
Beverly Anderson emailed me these jokes & thoght that you & your residents might enjoy a chuckle today --
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security.
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I
looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home.
I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back
later.
The woman said, your shirt'.
So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair..
She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed
my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security
office..
She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too'
***********************************************************************
My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring
at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.
My wife asked,' Do you know her?'
'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right
after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'
********************************************************************** *
I rear-ended a car this morning.
So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car.
You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny?
Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... he was a DWARF!!!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!!!'
So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?'

Hi meek.. you should first find out exactly what Ohio considers "Qualified" not "Certified" .. to work as an AD you need to satisfy Ftag 249 .. Which says basically that you need to have work experience in the field and or have taken a state approved Activity Director Training course..
www.activitydirector.org teaches the MEPAP 1 class which is accepted nationally as the basic training course and also counts towards full NCCAP Certification.
make sure you have your work history documented from the facility where you worked with the elderly ..up to the past consecutive 5yrs.. then find a local AD Training class or an Online class and start as soon as possible. The facility will need to have your work history on file, and proof that you are enrolled in a AD Training course .. if the state surveyors visit during your Qualification period they at their own discretion, may cite the facility with a warning and then revisit the citation to make sure that you have completed your course and have the proper state requirements to conduct activities with the elderly..
Qualification is the first step to becoming Certified.. you can visit NCCAP.org and view the additional requirments to becoming fully Nationally Certified..
Discuss it with your admin and make sure he or she is in agreement and proceed from there...\
hope this helps.. thanks, Pennie

"Good music makes happy Residents!" - David Kaufman / Entertainer
I get a personal thrill from making Residents come alive again by performing favorite songs from their time. Sometimes they get up and dance. Sometimes they just wiggle their fingers and toes. Whatever their functioning level may be, I take pride in having mastered the subtle energy of entertaining seniors.
Many performers bring in a lot of equipment and remain stationary at a microphone through their entire presentation. In contrast, I bring my voice and my acoustic guitar. I don't even use a microphone. I don't need it! Not only does my classically-trained voice reach to the back row, but I will get up and walk to the back row (and every other row), giving each and every Resident the personal attention they need and deserve! Oh, there is one more thing I always remember to bring: My heart.
I have been doing this for more than ten years and have appeared at more than 100 facilities. On August 26, 2005 I was featured on the Channel Four News at 5:30 with reporter Doug Kriegel.
Sophie, a Resident at the Jewish Home for the Aging, said to me: "You put gold in my heart!"
I say to you: "Good music makes happy Residents!"
I am based in North Hollywood. I will travel anywhere in Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley and I'm starting to expand into Orange County. My hourly rates are quite reasonable but I must take travel into account.

I am looking for more info from ADs/facilities using an "I" Care Plan. A more "resident involved" care planning procedure that lets the resident formulate his or her own Care Plan.. Residents are getting involved in their own care with the I Care Plan, being asked during the initial assessment about what they prefer, or how they would prefer you to handle their Problems, Goals and Approaches... i.e. residents with pre-existing problems may have a particular method or approach they are familar with and that they know works well for them, so they participate in the care plan with suggestions and preferences.
anyone have any input on this,, any forms to share or assessment procedures that help in this area?
thanks, Pennie
