Guest cindymaybe Report Share Posted September 7, 2004 Grandparetn's Day in on the 12th and I thought I would share what we have planned and hopefully if someone has any other ideas you could share with me. So of course we are going to have a big social with cake and ice cream, but I also thought it would be a cool idea if I set up little stations for when the grandchildren come in they will have something special and cool to do with thier grandparent as apposed to just sitting there running out of things to say. the staions will be; painting, coloring, crafts, games and pictures (ones we've taken of the residents on outings and special act) So how does it sound, fun? Let me know!

Guest AlwaysKacey Report Share Posted September 3, 2005 hi, I am the activity director for a nursing home in Oklahoma. This year for Grandparents Day we are inviting the grandchildren to perform a talent for the residents. So we will have different types of performers, then refreshments, then I am gonna make certificates for the longest living grandmother and grandfather, the grandparent with the most grandchildren and i am going to draw a name out of the hat for Grandparent of the Year the grandparent of the year will get a small gift and a certificate. Guest Guest Report Share Posted September 8, 2005 We have a big event every year...we have a local highschool band who marches to our outdoor patio and plays for us...this year we also have a gospel choir, and we're honoring Veterans...We did a "Grandparents are Heroes" theme, to try to be respectful of September 11th and the fact that GPDay falls on the same day--but also have an upbeat fun event for families and residents. WE're honoring "local heroes" like the fire station that helps us out, and boy scout troop is doing a flag ceremony. Family photos (via digital camera) and lots of snacks complete our 1 1/2-2 hour day!

SSlar99 0 Report Share Posted August 17, 2006 Hello Newbee: I have been an Activity Director forever and I always find the Tea Tasters Social w/warm scones, Ice Cream Social with all the toppings or a Wine and Cheese w/fruit and relaxing music all seem to be the big hits for Grandparents Day. One year we had our Senior Olympics the week of Grandparent's Day. I hired entertainment, food spread of nibblies, and presented their Gold, Bronze and Silver medals for a week of competitive challeges. LOL What a GREAT week that was! We had so much fun. Well, I hope I was able to help you out with an idea or two. Oh and for gifts I always make our centerpieces for the party in our Crafty Corner and raffle them free with each event. Have a great Grandparents Day! Susan Larivee, Activity Director for forever!

Maybe I'll throw in my karaoke machine too. Thanks, Terry Edited September 7, 2008 by terrykdunn
