lindsaymarie 0 Report Share Posted December 5, 2008 My current favorite 1:1 activity is pet time with our facility's rabbit. When I worked in AL, we simply gathered everyone into a circle in the activity room and passed the rabbit around to each resident while conversing about childhood pets and animals and so on. Now that I work in memory care, however, I find it more difficult to keep a group of people seated for that long. Instead I bring the rabbit from room to room and each resident gets to pet her for as long as they want, which usually adds up to about an hour unless the rabbit becomes antsy, in which case I end the activity early. There are a couple residents who really dislike leaving their rooms and whose sole interest is the rabbit, and they really love this activity. The ideas in this thread are really fantastic. I have written down the housekeeping music boxes and the sweet dreams cart, and I hope to implement those next week.
shirlee 0 Report Share Posted February 4, 2010 Make a simple themed art project reflecting the holiday or season to decorate their room. For valentines days they cut out a heart and they choose how to decorate it using stickers, markers, feathers etc.
shirlee 0 Report Share Posted February 4, 2010 For independent room activities, based on needs and interest we provide books, magazines, puzzles, word search, crosswords, scent stories, music, movies, sound machines, craft projects like water color or drawing sheets. ruby90 0 Report Share Posted November 22, 2018 I love that Especially during the summer I’m going to talk it over with my boss and see if we can somehow implement that into our one to one visit
Elenawilliams 0 Report Share Posted April 9, 2020 I also did something like this for my residents. I filled a cart with snacks. popcorn, chips, cookies, rice crispies treat etc.and walked from room to room playing the ice cream man song on a speaker. i work at a assisted living and this is now during lock down. They loved it, so maybe i would really be the ice cream truck next time. love it. Thank you.

Tiffanyyy 0 Report Share Posted April 27, 2020 In Room programs and definitely on a higher demand now due to the outbreak. I really like your idea of the ice cream Sunday social. We have a similar program where we basically have an activities cart where we go room to room and ask what the residents want to do for their activity in the morning. We then come around later with a portable ice cream cooler where we give the residents ice cream.
