  1. What about based on when they last went out? OR as rewards for doing tasks? OR something along those lines?
  2. I do not have to do them but understand the amount of paperwork that would require. Just a thought however what about photos so you can see who was there than do all the paperwork at one time based on them?
  3. We are having a festival soooon. We are having games for the residents which isn't a problem! We are also having games for kids of varing ages. I need prizes (CHEAP) ideas?? Will check out the usual sorces but how many do I get when I have no idea how many are coming? I think maybe 25 is a nice number to go with but do I plan one per or two??
  4. Wow what a challenge! I am not in a nursing home setting but maybe I can suggest a few things anyway. A tea - we did a Mad hatter tea party where they all wear crazy hats. Bingo or bowling is good. What about celebrating their differences? Get to know each others cultures better. Get the healthcare suppliers/companies to help out. They can maybe help plan and maybe get volunteer people to help you. On trivia maybe everyother question is something one of the other ethnics should know. Puzzle teams. Team them up in groups and give prizes to the group that finishes first. That way they are working together on something. Try to not get discouraged this job is hard and can zap energy to fast.
  5. We all can use help! WELCOME!! Let us know what you need. This site is full of helpful creative considerate people! I just can't thank each of them enough!
  6. Sitting only? Exercise bands? My residents are fairly mobile so what we do may not work for you. I know the goverment sends out a free catalog on this subject. I have gotten and it was very nice.

Figure we would give them breaks! :-) VERY short ones or maybe just put a port a potty next to or under them! Was thinking maybe some high school band might come and play for them for at least awhile. Do a discussion group type of thing. We have a book club maybe try to get them all to do it at the same time and have their meeting during that.
  9. WOW your sign looks GREAT! Was it proffesionally done? Did you paint it? Your ideas sound wonderful! I hope you will send photos of the table as well! Suggestion - black and white balloons grouped together. GREAT job! Question are you having gambeling as well and that is why it is a CHANCE to dance?

  13. I have a 16yr old doing volunteer work with me here in FL. How many hours a day/week is she allowed to help? Does it change after school starts? I am thinking it might be only 10 hrs a week?! True??? By the time I get an answer from legal could be a year or so lol!
  14. I have just gotten a new 16 year old volunteer! YEA BUT does anyone know how many hours legally she can help? My facility is independent active seniors in FL. THANKS!
  15. I have been an AD for about 6 months in FL. I am enjoying very much! We have about 100 independent residents. It is with a very large corporation I am very lucky to have such great bosses and residents! Budget isn't to bad either! So far very little to no paper work is needed! However after reading everything here am thinking I had better start to cover my ____. Any input on that? I had to get my CDL. Wasn't as bad of a test as I had thought it would be. Today is my first longer outing (1 hour drive one way) - we are expecting some big thunderstorm so am hoping it stays away until after we get back! (If anyone needs help on the test let me know can let you know how it went for me.) Not having to be certified here I am wondering if I would get that much out of the additional training. I know I am lucky also to be paid what I am currently also. This site has been a great help so far!
  16. Found out about this and think it is a super idea! I am going to have our residents do this. Thought you all might be interested in it as well. Was thinking about for those that do not want to make them maybe sell them and send the money to feed the hungry or USO of something like that. Check it out! Any thoughts suggestions? ______________________________________________ http://pinwheelsforpeace.com/pinwheelsforpeace/home.html (From the web site) Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two Art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for their students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. The project was quickly embraced by their students and the entire school community and by millions of art teachers, teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in our world. The first Pinwheels for Peace were installed on Sept. 21, 2005. Since then, we have grown from 500,000 pinwheels planted the first year, to 2 million pinwheels in 2008! Please plan to join us again, on Sept. 21, 2009, as we once again celebrate International Day of Peace with "whirled peace!" To learn about International Day of Peace, visit Peace One Day and International Day of Peace. Although the project was originally conceived as a way for students to express their feelings, we are hoping that artists, non-artists, young people and not-so-young people - EVERYONE- participates. Peace is something that we all yearn for...
  17. I like the robbery idea! I shall let you know if the "game" I get can be switched over to that. I sure hope it goes the way I want it to because I am excited about it! Know that our own excitment can help them get into it too!
  18. My residents are all fairly active average age is about 90 with participation minimal. I am considering doing a Raoaring 20s murder mystery party in August. Any input on this? Suggestion? THANKS! PKC
  19. What is a HEN Party? Also please explain Holi Board THANKS!
  20. I am going to do a competion on Wii kids vs GP! Hope it works! Telling the res. about it now is also helping getting them to come out and try Wii for the first time!
  21. I am fairly new AD at an indipendent community. Participation is minimal. My hours are only 30 a week. How do you find time to do a survey and attendance chart!?? Any suggestions on how to do it all!?
  22. We have used M+N with success. They often have items that you can't find anywhere else!
  23. The race car games are great but are tough on some because it needs quick reaction times. Brain game was ok but the "grading" part of the game bored them. They like the traget shooting but not much variety in the one game version we got. I see where Wii is coing out Wednesday with a contoll addition that sounds like it may help. Any informationon it?
  24. WHat about Carnival type of games? Ask the grandkids to come and have a competion with them.
