azucker 0 Report Share Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Everyone has amazing ideas for Father's Day! We are doing a special events dinner for them. Our theme is a "Take me to the Ballgame" type theme. We have a full menu that they voted on at our resident council meeting! I am really excited about it. I hope they enjoy it! azucker 0 Report Share Posted May 28, 2008 One way to help is to make it a very welcoming activity to the women as well. For my Mother's Day Champagne Brunch, it had an even mix of both men and women. According to some of my residents who attended, they wouldn't have wanted it any other way. They were able to share a very emotional day with the friends they have come to respect and adore. They felt having their friends there with them, male or female, made their celebration more enjoyable. However, if the activity that you planned is based around "Male Bonding", which is perfectly okay...like Karen said, have open arms, however it is okay to tell the ladies that this is a "male oriented" activity. You can even label it on your calendar or bulletin board that way so everyone is aware of your honest intentions to honor the men in your facility. ljadler 0 Report Share Posted May 29, 2008 For father's day we are havig waffles for the men we only have 5 so it will be lots of fun. They can bring a guest to eat with them. The way I get my residents to come do activity's with me is I give them paper money to all activity's they do and at the frist of the month we have a mystery auction and its lots of fun . yrtype 0 Report Share Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) We are having a Fathers Day Luncheon this Fathers Day. Subway Sandwiches are a favorite with our residents, it is treat to get all the extra's subway offers and the sandwich ends up stacking a "mile high" which is a tasty "mans meal". Of course chips, beverage and a dessert are included. But what makes this luncheon so special is we invite our NHA, which is a male, our therapy staff, 3 males, our maintenance dept. which is 2 males, housekeeping dept. 1 males, and our male nurses and nursing assistants. (dietary, housekeeping, et. if you have males in those depts ) We ladies back out and let the luncheon truely become all male. The staff interacts with the residents and the residents get that" one on one male" involvement. It is really great to actually see just an "all mens group" finally happening. Bonus: if you call your local subway, it is most likely a franchise owner by a local person and they will match a free tray of sandwiches to one you purchase. Donations are so great because then you can increase your planned attendance and it not break your budget for one nice function & you have plenty of food. A large tray is so much food! ckimbal1 0 Report Share Posted June 5, 2008 I am very fortunate to be in a facility that has a lake behind it. We are taking our men fishing the friday before fathers day and inviting the ladies to join. Then we are having a party on saturday with a male entertainer and "Manly" food. We are serving food such as mini hotdogs, pretzels, wings, ect. Usually we just post this a male activity with a coinciding female activity so the men can truly have a guys day. 2Bfun 0 Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 My reply is too late for 2008, however for Father's Day we had a Beef and Beer brunch. The families were invited and we all had a good time eating and drinking our non-alcoholic beer. The reason for my post is to let you know that what the Dads and families liked best about the day were the Father's Day quotes that I read. I got the quotes from www.quotegarden.com/dad.day.html (I love the quote garden) Pam

katytxad 0 Report Share Posted July 3, 2008 Hello all. I need some ideas for an Arts/Crafts project or other ideas for Fathers Day upcoming. What is everyone else doing????? I work in a snf with quite a bit of Alzheimers / Dementis residents so it can't be to challenging. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks, Alan Hi Alan I also work at a snf, 125 bed unit. We do our lower functioning activities in the am we have done some painting that was fun, you can use cotton balls, toothbrushes, put gloves on the residents and let them finger paint. We also did quilt wall hangings, very easy. Napkin rings, wall collages, all about me books, there are several that are fairly easy for lower functioning residents. Email me and I will help out anyway I can. Fathers Day is our Car Show, we have music, pop corn, snow cones, and hot dogs. My email is tcook@spanish-meadows.com Hope that helps.
