Halloween Party

Does anyone have any new and exciting ideas for a Halloween Party? Our party is scheduled at night (6:00 p.m.) and we ask staff and their children to join us. We also have live entertainment (a one man band) play music for a hour or so, snacks, punch and "goodies" for the kids. The goodies are given to the kids after a costume contest where everyone wins. (We used to do 1st, 2nd, 3rd place until I had one child throw herself down in the middle of the floor sreaming out of control because the residents didn't vote for her). Any ideas on how to "Mix things up" a bit so it's not the same 'ol, same 'ol as it has been the past few years?

Thanks!

Ella

We do something like a trick or treat walk-through in our facility's ALF- all the residents wait outside their doors in a chair or something with a container of candy that the AD provided. The kids form a train through out the hallways and go trick or treating "door to door". The residents love it!

How about the kids making a mask for the residents with the residents help that the residents would wear. Something simple not messy.

Make it a dance. Where the kids would dance with the residents. (swinging arms type of thing)

Have the kids vote for the costumes of the residents.

I realize most of my thoughts would be very hard if the kids are very little but maybe will help you think of something else.

My boss suggested asking the local Daycare centers or Sunday school classes to come.

Maybe ask your senior center to come too?

Thanks for the ideas! I would like to "Shake Up" the whole day and some of the ideas can work! Keep the ideas coming! I can use some for the week prior to the party, such as one afternoon having the kids come in to make masks with the residents to use at the party.

Thanks for your help!

Ella!

Hello,

We are doing a spook house this year. Fortunately we have a clinic here in our facility that is no longer being used. We are having our residents that are able, help us decorate the four different clinic rooms. On halloween we are going to have them all dress up in costumes for the trick or treaters and some are even going to dress up scary and sit in the spooky rooms to give them a little scare if they decide to go through the "haunted clinic", of course we will only do this with the older children. If smaller children want to go through, we will let everyone know not to try and scare them.Every week in October we are having atleast 3 halloween crafts. We are making ghosts and spiders out of tootsie pops to give away as treats for the children on halloween as well as a bunch of other candy. We are also having a halloween costume contest at our Halloween party on the 28th. This will include Staff, Volunteers and Residents. On halloween we will have different stations through out the building for cake walks, bobbing for apples, and many other fun events for the residents and children. Im really looking forward to it!

In my facility we do a Halloween parade for the residents who cant or dont want to leave their room. We end up in the dining room for a treat bag full of candy and snacks/drinks. The children and residents play a game of Halloween Bingo and receive prizes of small Halloween novelties ( like from Oriental Trading). The residents and the children seem to really enjoy this.

At our community we provide the residents with a Halloween Carnival. We have the residents participate in a variety of games such as the Cake Walk, bobbing for apples, face painting, etc. We also have the residents participate in singing Kareoke. We provide food and snacks aside from our traditional costume contest. We make sure to involve the residents to take part in all our festivities.
