I am in ohio, and a co worker told me that we do not need mepap classes if our facility is small? Has anyone ever heard of this? I have completed my mepap classes.

Outings have been limited at our two facilities due to the cuts. Our van is now used for transporting residents to doctors appointments. It is hard to plan an activity outing for two buildings. I post on my activity calendar: Outings are subject to change d/t inclement weather or appointments.
One thing we did last month was get a menu from a resturaunt and order the food to be delivered to the facility instead of going out for lunch. More people could participate.

Hi
I am working at a person centered care facility. Does anyone else work at one? I think we were PCC facilities before the term came up. I am wondering if anyone has been in a survey at a person center care facilty? Has anyone written I plans and if so, can you tell me about them.
Thanks,
Stasia

If we use another van within the corporate, we are required to have a cdl. we have hired a part time person for this position. He assists with floors as well.
Appointments are made by family and social services. They are responsible for the transportation.
I do shopping for a resident.

In our rural area , we got a 4 star rating for two counties. One facility in each county got a 5 star rating. A neighboring county facility received 1 star only. I wonder what this is based on. IS it what residents say, families, or department of health.

I am interested in knowing if you celebrate trick or treat in your facility?
Town childern to not visit on trick or treat day. We have a preschool class visit us for treats. The youngsters do finger poems and sing as well. The residents like to see the children's costumes.

Do what you do at work everyday and you will be fine. Focus on residents who have triggered little or no participation in your raps.
Remember to ask for 2 forms of Identification.
Follow the plan of care.
Good luck, I am sure that you will do well.

Hi,
I did resident of the month at one time. I included favotie activities: birthplace, favorite food, month and day they were born, advice to the younger generation, favorite color. I asked the family to bring in photos of the residents to display.
Residents took pride in being on the bulletin board.

Are you involved if family care plan meetings?
What do you report on?
Sometimes they skip over me, but I still talk with families 1:1

I am at a facility that uses computer for charting.
Weekly, I do an assessment on each resident.
I use paper charting for my daily log. I fill this out daily and refer back to it when using the computer for charting.
I also do a paper copy of my MDS and then enter ot into the computer with a narrative note.
If I see someone one on one, I enter it into the computer at the time.

We decorate our facility in the fall time of the year. Many residents are sad summer has ended and old man winter will soon be upon us. What other activities do you do to prepare for a change in the seasons?
-
Some questions you ask activity staff are:
When will they be able to work?
Why do they want to work at your facility with that population?
Do they play a musical instrument/ do crafts?
To see if they are an optimist or pessimist: Do you view a half of a glass of water half full or half empty?
What can they bring to the job?
Ask about past experiences, and why they want to work in long term care.
If you did mepap, did you use the book Essentials? Chapter 5 talks about this.
Good Luck, Stasia

We do not have a facility van for going on outings. If someone has a doctors appointment, it is up to the family, an Ambulette, and Council on Aging van to take them.
I have recently began to use the Council on Aging van to transport us shopping. One adult per resident.
I am in my second month of taking people places to shop. The cost of a resident using this service is fifty cents one way. The adult volunteers pay a dollar one way. I always drop more in their box because I believe it is a worth while service to the community.

Herbs of Rosemary and Mint have a fragrant odor. Take some of these herbs to those that you need to do 1:1;s with. Allow residents to guess what type of herb they are. Reminisce about how to use them with cooking.

Hi,
With the Presidential elections coming up, I am going to ask Residents if they would like to vote on a new Council president.
The September meeting will be begin with nominations. October will be a month of campaining and making signs. ( Staff can assist wit this.)
In November, a new president will be elected.
How does every one elect their Council President?
Thanks, Stasia

Hi,
This is a small group activity with residents who want to reminisce.
Spin the Bottle
I never played spin the bottle until recently with the residents.
Ask your nurses to save you an empty bottle of milk of magnesia
When the bottle is empty, clean it outside and in with soapy water. Be sure that there is not a resident's name on it due to hippa violations.
Seat residents at a table.
You start out being the leader.
Explain to the residents that if the bottle points to them, the person that spun the bottle will ask them a question.
The person who answers will spin the bottle the next turn.
Iniform residents that this is a chance to learn about one another. Residents were informed not to ask to personal question.
This activity gets the ladies and gentleman's socialization skills going. They answer the questions as well as ask a question to the next person.
Spinning th bottle is great fine motor coordination.
Enjoy and have fun.
