hey guys, i am trying to figure out which states require their AD's to be certified. If you could, please list your state and certification or no certification. I think it will be helpful for those just coming into the AD profession and those looking into getting into it. Thank you so much!

Hello!

Here are the regulations in New York State

2) The activities program shall be directed by a qualified professional

who:

certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist by a recognized

accrediting body on or after August 1, 1989; or

(ii) has 2 years of experience in an age-appropriate social or recreational

program within the last 5 years, 1 of which was full-time in a patient or

resident activities program in a health care setting; or

Tiki,

Is that the requirements for each level? Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living (including memory care, right?), and Independent Living. I am showing my ignorance but I just do not know. I worked in IL before I got the job I have now. I was not certified when I was hired but now I am on that road...still have a few CEUs, I think....I am in AL now with memory care. I know in IL you do not have to have anything....or at least I did not. Is AL and Skilled Nursing about the same in the requirement?

No only for LTC - Most AL want to hire a AD certificated but it is not always a requirement. It really depends on the facility.

Hope this helps
