We still do the Ole' High school dance thing , may be old fashion but 'tis sooooooooooooo much fun. I also have a fantastic staff not just from activities) and we make sure no one is left sitting on the sideline waiting to dance with someone. We do not crown a King and Queen though. Good Luck !!

Here's a Punch recicpe for Valentine's Day. I'm not sure where this came from, but it very well might have come from one of you. It's very good.

 

 

Valentine's Day Fruit Punch

INGREDIENTS:

· 1 package cherry Kool-Aid

· 1 package strawberry Kool-Aid

· 2 cups sugar

· 1 quart ginger ale

· 3 quart water

· 1 (6 ounce can) frozen orange juice

· 1 (6 ounce can) frozen lemonade

PREPARATION: Mix Kool-Aid, sugar and water. Add orange juice and lemonade. Mix until thawed. Add ginger ale just before serving. Serves about 25 servings

Hi guys, I have a fun month for February.

 

Not only do I have Valentine's Day, I also have the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo!

 

Last year we had mini horses come to the facility. We also took amazing picture with the residents dressed up with a cowboy hat, cowboy neckties (bandana material cut in strips) old time rifle, horseshoes, barrels of hay, etc. I had amazing family support this year.

The day the Rodeo kicks off, we also have the Cowboy Breakfast, in which Dept heads serve residents and staff breakfast at 7a.m.

 

Any other fun ideas for the Rodeo in the facility?

Valentines for Veterans

The residents at our facility enjoy participating in Ann Landers "Valentine's for Veterans." They make Valentine Cards during crafts for several weeks in advance. They ususally vote during Resident Council to use some of their fund raiser money to purchase regular and diabetic chocolates and sometimes other small items items to include in the box with their Valentine Cards. Early in Feb. all the items are boxed up and sent to the VA hospital in Reno. The residents have been participating in this project for about eleven years now.

 

Valentine Dinner

On Valentine evening each resident may invite one or two guests to join them for dinner. I purchased tap lights for each table at the dollar store. I cover the tap lights in a pillow of red or pink tissue paper. The covered tap lights are placed in the center of each table and turned on. Then I surround the covered tap light with a vine of silk roses, also from the dollar store. The centerpieces are attractive and emit a very romantic glow. The diningroom lights are dimmed. The department managers serve the meal and are dress in black slacks and white shirts. We either have live music or we play familiar romantic music cd's. We serve chilled sparkling cider in disposable wine glasses. The bottles of sparkling cider is taken from the ice bucket, wrapped in a white towel and taken to the table to be served. The cider flows through the entire meal. (I beleive our residents consume more fluids during these special meals than they do at any other time.) Our Dietary Supervisor purchased and prepared a wonderful prime rib last year. The managers seem to enjoy these special meals as much as the residents do. We do this twice a year, once for New Years Eve and again for Valentines's Day.

 

I love reading about the Valentine's Day ideas that everyone is sharing. Next will be Leap Year ... and then St. Patricks Day, and soon those wonderful spring and summer events!!! (Yes, I have a bad bad case of cabin fever this year!)

Love Line (Feb)

 

Description : -To communicate feelings and to improve self-esteem of your residents.

 

Materials :

# Stack of 3x5 cards

# Pens or pencils

# Piece of heavy string or rope

# Hole punch

 

Instructions :

# 1 Large envelope for every resident

# Each person in the group puts his or her name on an envelope and decorates the envelope.

# Then punch a hole in the corner of the envelopes and thread the string/rope through them (like a chain of envelopes).

# Hang the chain of envelopes someplace everyone can see it.

# Leave paper and pencils by the "Love Line" so people can write nice notes to the residents and place in the designated envelope (encourage staff, family members, and residents to participate).

# After a predetermined time, allow the residents to read their notes from the "Love Line".

Variation:Do this activity with just the staff.

Hi everyone!

First, Happy Activity Professionals Weeks to all!!!!! What a fun week for us!

 

I am looking to change my Valentine Party to the morning this year, which is something I don't really want to do, because it is easier for me to finish my planning and preparation for the party throughout the day and have the party in the afternoon, especially since it falls on a Monday.

 

Also, since it's in the A.M., I don't want to do food, because lunch is served at 11:30 and then no one will be hungry for lunch - which dietary and nursing gets antsy about.

 

Okay, so here's my idea -

Doing crafts, funny Val superstitions, voting on King and Queen, taking pictures, etc and then serving the Valentine Desserts after lunch is served - so I'll have to hang around till all that is said and done.

Does anyone have any other fun ideas for the party to cover that time frame without serving refreshments? It'll be easier to start the party at 10:30. You know our residents, it's not a party unless there is food there to keep them there!

 

Help with your ideas! Yes, here is my suggestion. I have used this idea so many times before with AM holiday programs because this is when I usually have the school children in to sing, community organizations for musical presentations, et.

I always do the jello parfait. it is sooooooooooooo easy, low calorie, does not fill up your residents and is still a neat treat. (l) buy your small clear punch/plastic cups. (2) make your cherry or strawberry jello, yes you can use no sugar, they will never know the difference a day in advance. (3) buy your low fat or sugar free whipped topping. (4) lst scoop of topping, then a scoop of jello, top off with scoop of whipped topping, add a few red sprinkles if you wish to make it more festive. The residents will love it! A new idea for your Valentines Day King & Queen of Hearts. Last year I wanted all my residents to feel special so instead of having the usual voting for a King & Queen I called our local Burger King and asked the manager if she would donate the gold Burger King paper Crowns they give to the public. She gave me 120 free crowns, I brought them backto the facility and covered the circle with Burger King written on it with gold glitter. At my party I surprised everyone with the announcement that because every single resident was so special we could not make a decision for just one King & Queen. And, we made every single resident either King or Queen with their very own crown to wear, a little party sack for each and had a big Valentine Party. At the end of the day, some of our residents were still wearing their crown to dinner. Being a veteran Activity Director of 29 years gave me a thrill and touched my heart so that I thought I would never stop the tears of joy & happiness just to know that every resident felt so special. Valentine Passion Pops

 

12 Caramel Squares

 

32 Vanilla Wafers Cookies

 

16 Lollipop Sticks

 

1 C Semisweet or milk chocolate chips

 

Valentine Sprinkles

 

 

Melt unwrapped caramels in a microwave according to package directions. Working quickly, spoon small dollops of caramel onto 16 cookies. Place lollipop stick in center and top each with another cookie to make a sandwich.

 

Melt chocolate chips according to package directions. Dunk each cookie sandwich in chocolate and shake gently to remove excess. Top lollipops with sprinkles and place on wax paper-lined baking sheet. Chill until firm, 5 to 10 mins.

 

Makes 16 pops.

Hi.

I played Have a Heart Hangman with my residents and they all had a blast. I even had them asking if we could play it the next day...and we did! I found it on the internet, and it is so simple.

I got a large dry erase board and a black and red dry erase marker. All of the clues have to be Valentines Day themed. Where you would normally have a vowel, put a red heart there. The residents all know that a vowel would go there and the only thing they had to do was figure out which one. The participation that I had was phenomenal.
