lisasitt 0 Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 Hi! I'm Lisa. I'm from the Buffalo, NY area. I am currently finishing up the MEPAP 1 with Kathy Hughes...exam is Tuesday already! I currently work in an assisted living facility. I work exclusively in the memory care unit as the Memory Care Program Coordinator. So, I basically plan and implement the activities on the unit. I am a one man show in there, but the residnet aides continue the scheduled activities when I am not there. I plan on attaining my ad certification with a specialization in memory care. I actually would like to continue my certification afterwards to earn a dementia care trainer certification. Years ago, I owned my own business while my children were in school...it enabled me to be with them as they needed me and earn money at the same time. Well, the entreprenual spirit still exists in me and I would ultimately love to be a consultant specializing in memory care units/facilities. But, for now, I will keep working towards my AD and we will see where I go from there. I previously worked at a long term care facility as an activities aid, but I had all the duites of a memory care program coordinator. It worked out perfect in that phase of the MEPAP as I was working on care plans and CAA's there, so the learning material made complete sence to me. I left that facility for an opportunity to work in one of the highest rated facilities in my area. Things run much slower at an assisted living facility which I do welcome, but I have to admit that I do miss care plans, care conferences ad even working on the CAA's! Anyway, if your interests are in memory care, let's share ideas!
Connie48 0 Report Share Posted February 8, 2016 Hi Lisa, I'm in a Senior Behavioral Health Unit with a 12 bed unit. Rarely are we filled completely full, but it sounds a lot like your job. I'm the only Activities person in the unit. We are 90% dementia related and I love working with this group even if they do show aggression at times, but that is why we are here is to reduce that and get them back on the right track with changing their meds up if this is possible. It is never boring here. Connie
jas18 0 Report Share Posted February 16, 2016 Hi Lisa, I'm from Hoosick Falls NY. I work in a skilled nursing facility as an assistant activity director. I'm also finishing my MEPAP1 with Kathy. I am already a provisionally certified AD= ADPC. Memory care sounds interesting. Let me know if you have any really simple bead crafts, we have tons of beads, but our residents are really physically limited. Julie

Still a few more assignments to be done, but I'm confident I would finish them on schedule. Great to be here, good luck to all with the State Survey. skershaw 1 Report Share Posted February 28, 2016 hello everyone, i am from linden Michigan. (cold right now with 17 inches of snow) we have a 60 bed nursing home. i have been an activity aid for over 5 years and now taking the roll of the director. currently in MEPAP 1. They keep me very busy! Being the director makes me really miss all the time I got to spend with the residents before. I have found I don't get as much time to be with them. My family keeps me busy too, with 4 girls under the age of 20. I also like to do horseback riding in my free time. we do a lot of camping in the summers. Happy to meet everyone here and love all the ideas and that I'm not the only one with any certain problems or concerns.
mariahmatthews 0 Report Share Posted March 2, 2016 Hello everyone! I work at a Continuing Care Community in Walla Walla, Washington, a very small town in southeastern Washington. I am also finishing up my MEPAP1 course. Working at a Continuing Care Community, I am blessed to work with a large diversity of residents -- those living in independent apartments, assisted living facility, skilled nursing center and rehab center. We are very lucky to have 4 activity professionals working at our facility and 2 transportation providers. I find that it is one of our biggest challenges bringing all of our residents together in large events. When it is successful, it is amazing! One of my favorite events of the year is our campus wide outdoor picnic in July. We pull out the barbecues and have a BIG feast with live music, outdoor games, etc. Last year we had a water balloon fight, which made everyone laugh and was the hit of the day. I currently work in a SNF with 90 beds and will be promoted to activity coordinator upon graduation. My background is in social work but when i lost my job due to government cuts i looked for new job and just fell in love with activities. I am high energy and can't sit still which doesn't earn me promotions in other jobs, lol. I am 43 and found my passion in life. I look foward to talking and learning from all of you. NinaJacobs 1 Report Share Posted March 15, 2016 Hi, my name is Nina Jacobs and I work as "Enrichment Coordinator" in an Independent Living Community. Pretty upscale. Same here with never a dull moment! I am in the beginning sages of getting finally certified as AD and maybe switch to assisted or skilled nursing. We do not have much paperwork that I need to fill out so all the care plans, and assessments, progress notes is completely new to me. I am lucky to have a fantastic advisor Pam Bailey who is a great support to me.!
