  1. For St. Patrick's Day I am planning a What's Cooking for the day before. We are going to make Corned Beef and Cabbage Stew and then on St. Patrick's Day we will gather in the dining room and have a nice sit down dinner to eat it. We are inviting family members to come in to join us. For Easter we will have an Easter Egg Hunt. We post flyers in the community and invite the younger children to come into the facility to Hunt. The residents help the Activity staff fill plastic eggs with candy and paper slips with prizes written on them, they also help us hide the eggs (those who are able). On the day of the Hunt we bring all the residents to the main dining room and lobby to watch the little ones hunt for their eggs. We provide cookies and punch for all. Peter Cottontail comes in to visit with the youngsters and the residents. The residents get a big kick out of all of it!
  2. We have dogs, cats, fish, and birds, in my facility. We also have the local State Park Ranger come in with stuffed wildlife animals. He sets them all up in our dining room and does a information type program for the residents. Its almost like we are actually in the woods! We also take our residents out to a local farm that exhibits safari animals and every fall we go to the petting zoo and apple orchard. We have other groups that come in with their pets to visit. The residents also enjoy sitting in the lobby and looking out our picture windows at the neighbors horses as well.
  3. I myself dont see anything wrong with showing pirates of penzance on leap year day. I think the residents in my facility would love it! It would make them laugh for sure, and I love to see my residents laugh. Have you asked the residents how they would feel about it?
  4. In my facility we offer board games, puzzles, crosswords, and books to read to those who want independent activities and to those who like to get out of their rooms we offer of course bingo, spiritual activities, carfts, etc. We also invite those who are able to "help" with our activities and we go on outings for those who can.
  5. This isnt a frog recipe but I hope it will help. In my facility we are going to make Grasshopper Pie. They jump/leap too! Here is the recipe: Keebler's Grasshopper Pie 1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1 (14-oz.) can "Eagle Brand" sweetened condensed milk Green food coloring 16 "Keebler Grasshopper" fudge mint cookies, coarsely crumbled 1 (8-oz.) container frozen nondairy whipped topping, thawed 1 (6-oz.) "Keebler Ready Crust" chocolate pie crust With mixer, beat cheese until fluffy; gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk until smooth. Stir in food coloring, then crushed cookies. Fold in whipped topping. Pour into crust. Chill at least 3 hours. Garnish: chocolate shavings, additional cookie pieces, or mint leaves). Refrigerate leftovers.
