My introduction/special event chat buddy needed

Recommended Posts

Good morning.  I can't even sleep in when I want to.  It's 5:08 am here in PA on this Memorial Day.  My  name is Doreen and I am completing my final practicum.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this class and I found it very time consuming considering I work full time.  That seems to be the consensus of many.  No one can walk away from this class and say they were not prepared.

My special event upcoming is our resident picnic.  Entertainment is finalized, tent rental completed, dietary is working on the menu.  All we need is NICE WEATHER!

I am looking for a chat buddy to discuss things further.  What do you have going on?

Good Morning,

I worked full time as well when taking the course, you will do fine. I hope that

you have support from family and friends. If you are on Facebook look for

Activities Directors, you will continue to learn from them. And you will find

that we all have questions about our work. We will be starting our calendar for

the summer, we usually have a picnic in August, so we have a little time. On your

special event, you might want to see if you could have a car show, the residents

love to see old cars and even new ones, we had one of the dealerships bring some

new cars to the show.

Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know.

Hi Doreen I'm in Nashville,TN doing ME1-030618 and also working FT as an Activity Partner. Do you work in Activities?

I'm doing the scheduled course & just starting week 13, in less than 1 month I will have finished ME1!! It flew by. Are you enjoying the class? Are you doing own pace?

As far as class & working goes, after work at the end of the day I;m too exhausted to do much, so I do my best work early in the morning, I usually just get up an hour earlier than normal.. When I'm not scheduled for weekend work, I do my written assignments then. Pretty much all my "off" time is spent doing course work, but I keep reminding myself in 6 more months I will be done with the ALL course work and I know how good that will feel

Doreen Hi! I think we are in the same MEPAP class 040318.. I work full-time  too but trying hard to get all these lessons done with you! I would like to chat with you as we get through our final weeks. I am  from PA too, in the little town of DuBois and work in skilled at CKM. I am a CNA but work in activities and have done so for 8 years. Love my residents and find it to be very rewarding! So I see you had Memorial Picnic and as I recall the weather was perfect! I worked that weekend too and had my husband and daughter come to work with me and help put in our garden and flowers. Now it's almost officially summer....so glad for  it. We are planning for a Kids Day in  July. The staff are invited to sign their kids up for a whole day of fun devoted to them. It is a highly anticipated event here with a good turn out and tons to do since it lasts from 6AM until 4PM. We are planning ways to get our residents more involved with the kids this year..Maybe turning it into a parade and having the kids pass out laminated sunshines to our residents and having them personally invite the residents to our patio. What new things are you planning where you work? I missed our Father's Day Social because I was off but heard it went great. Will you be going right into MEPAP 2? I was told that I may have to wait awhile because we lost one of our activity aides. I finally found my rhythm so that's maybe a bummer for me.. Oh well.

Hello, I am currently in week 16 of the course and am so excited to be finishing this chapter. I have learned so much and I feel the changes I have made have already made a direct impact to our residents in their day to day life. I love the ide a of a kids day. Our facility has always been very welcoming to staff with children visiting. I myself have a 7 month old baby and several of my coworkers also have babies under a year old. The residents absolutely loved it! I also missed our fathers day social, but on Friday we had a Fathers Day bbq, which was super nice.
