Thanks for the encouragement in your post and I will try my hardest to be an awesome activity director. I know I will because I do think outside the box and have creative ideas but greatest of all I love working in this field and love my residents so I think I would fit in any skilled nursing facility/LTC or Assisted Living Facility. I am so excited to have found this site and will keep posting. I hope to talk to you more Miguel, that would be awesome so we could trade ideas and I really want to know about your monthly calenders. I have twin girls who just graduated from high school this past may. So during the crazy week of National Nursing Home Week I was also going to Graduation and having a Grad party. Then they turned 18 June 10 so we had another party. I am sick of PARTIES! But I survived and enjoyed every bit of it. I do like my job. I am fortunite to be in a really nice facility. adpc2007 0 Report Share Posted June 26, 2007 Hi my name is Kim I'm an activity director at a 185 bed LT facility in Alabama, I started in long term care 8 years ago, before that I lived in florida and worked at a bank, I have been AD for 3 years, have 5 assistants, I enjoy my job and my passion is Alzheimer's programming (we have a 32 bed Alz. Unit) and 1 to 1 programming as well. I just won a best practice for my 1 to 1 program "Activities at your fingertips". I'm provisionally certified and working towards my final class for moving up a level in my certification. I would like to be a consultant, as I enjoy helping other facilities implement programs. I enjoy chatting with other activity professionals, swapping ideas and learning all i can. I hope to post often. Hope to "talk" with ya'll regularly. I've come to really enjoy my new work environment. It's been a challenge;learning the ins & outs of a new angle of recreation, but that's what I was looking for... a challege. I am from IL I have been an activity coordinator for 4 years now, was independant now has gone to supportive assisted living. We now have 96 residents owners hoping for 144 that is alot compared to when I started with just about 55-60. How is everyone out there? I was been an Activity Assistant for four years and then became the Activity Director. I have been the director for four years. My facility has a van which I drive. My volunteer program is very good, we have about 30 volunteers a month. I have a staff of three. I.m always open to neww ideas, we like to keep our residents busy. I have interchangeable activity kits, a cd player, portable dvd player, garden center etc. in other words anything used for large groups can be on this cart. The main reason for this cart in to increase the quality and quanty of in room activities, and it works great with resident's that may be anxious. Before making this cart more time was wasted lookin for in room activities, now their can be up to 30 activities at a time on one cart and the AA take it with them on the hall, it has a brightly covered canopy resident's and staff alike enjoy the cart. I'm 23 and I graduated in December with a BAAS in Business an AAS in Business Mgmt I have recently decided that I'm not made to sit behind a desk so I start the Activity Director certification classes in less than a month (I've been counting down for 2 months now). The book is titled Sunshine and Joy's Big Book of Alzheimer's Activities. You can find the book on my web site www.sunshineandjoy.com or on Amazon. The activities were crafted such that even those who can only say or nod "yes" or "no" can participate. The book was designed to be fun and interesting for patients and activity directors! It contains lots of fun graphics and even some cute "wearable" stickers and award ribbons you can present to your residents. I am a caregiver myself, having cared for my mother for the past seven years (5 of those years in my home). I understand well the challenges of amusing and stimulating those who are memory impaired.
