fleamarket 0 Report Share Posted August 18, 2009 Hi guys. I was wondering how everyone else selects who can go on the outings scheduled. In the past I had a sign up sheet posted and residents signed up. However, recently everyone wants to go and the residents are bickering amongst themselves and they feel like they are being left out. Any suggestions?

pkc 0 Report Share Posted August 19, 2009 What about based on when they last went out? OR as rewards for doing tasks? OR something along those lines?
DeanaG73 1 Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 What about based on when they last went out? OR as rewards for doing tasks? OR something along those lines? If you have a bunch of people wanting the same outting, what about offereing the outting 2 times so that you can take half one time and the other half the next time?? We have a 12 passenger bus that will also hold 3 wheel chairs. I don't usually have enough residents on my outtings to fill the bus. I work a fairly low function skilled unit right now. Our assisted living unit doest fill up the bus either though. Sorry, I don't have any experience to help you with this situation.

Any suggestions? What I do is have them sign up, but whoever went on the outing the last time can't go the next, I remind them that there is 120 beds in the facility and to be fair we have to take turns, this works for me and they argee that we need to be fair. It took a couple months, for me to know that the same old group wasn't going everytime. The residents actually are glad to see different residents getting to go on outings now, and they know that they will get a turn. However, recently everyone wants to go and the residents are bickering amongst themselves and they feel like they are being left out. Any suggestions? I wonder about the same thing. We have to use public transportation. I almost always have everyone in wheel chairs wanting to go. 3 wheelchairs to a bus and most of the time we take two buses. I get upset that it is always the same people wanting to go. They sign up so quickly noone else has a chance. I am thinking about alternating who can go. If you went on the last outing, then you cannot signup for the next outing until others has had a chance to signup. Then if there is room you can go. I feel bad either way for the ones who never go and for the ones who always go and then to tell them no. What is other opinions?

We go on 4 outings a month (once a week) so there are plenty of oppertunities for the residents to choose. In the summer I do get alot of residents wanting to go but they do understand that we take turns. No one is allowed to go twice in a row. They sign up on the sheet in the Activity room and I choose who gets to go based on what outing they went on last. It works for us with no problem. Ella 0 Report Share Posted August 26, 2009 I also rotate who goes on our outings. Residents are informed that we must give everyone the opportunity to attend outings and that seating on the bus is limited. I keep a log of who attends the outings so that I don't forget who went the last time. When I go through the list, if I have refusals, then I will ask those that went the last time. I also have a mixed population so those that are not able to go shopping, I take on the scenic drives. It took me a while to get residents to understand that we needed to give everyone a chance to go on the outings but now it works out well. Keeping a log of who attends and especially one of who refuses is a big help because inevitably you will get someone who will say "You never ask me to go"! Hope this helps! yunakitty 2 Report Share Posted August 26, 2009 I would say that anyone who went on the last outing is on the "wait list" for the next one. That is, they have to sign up on a separate sheet, and if there are still any openings, then the first people on the wait list get to go. We post a list and take the first 4 who sign up for the wheelchair spots and the 3 walk-ons. However, we do monitor and if you went on the last trip, you can not go on this one. The only exception is if their is an open spot and no one fills it you can go. We do have alternate spots in-case someone can not go for some reason (illness). We try to take different people to give everyone a chance.
