blessed1 0 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 Costume Ideas: Get plastic rectangular table cloth, cut it in half, cut an X in the middle of each tablecoth half. Now you have 2 ponchos. Depending on the color, you can make so many costumes out of them by adding accessories to them. Once I used a gingham (red/white checkered) TC and glued a table setting, plastic food, and plastic ants that trailed around the whole costume. Use a cooler hot glue (quickly) to bond items to TC but not melt through. Makes for quicker assembly too. Another costume I made was a teal TC with rubber ducks, frogs and fish gued to it. had to use a diffferent (I can't remember what) glue for that one. Rubber critters don't stick to hot glue. I also added fake cat tails and made a hat out of a fake lilypad with a frog glued onto it. Lastly i hung one of the fish on a childs bamboo fishing pole and added that to the costume. This costume was pretty bulky and was only worn for the contest. These costumes are so easy for residents to wear, especially for wheelchair riders, they just slip on over the head! I'm always looking for new costumes to make out of these ponchos, so if you have an idea, please share.

It's a nice variation on the trash bag costumes because with the table cloths there are more colors available and they are relatively cheap. Many of the items could be found in a garage too. How clever! Where did you find the items? One idea I could see is a costume for a movie buff including strips of construction paper fashioned like 8mm movie film, some VHS covers stapled to the table cloth, and a bag of popcorn on top of a hat. Have fun!
blessed1 0 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 I made them years ago, but i think the rubber critters were at dollar tree (haven't seen them in a long time) fishing pole at some other long gone dollar store (probably find one in a toy section, rubber critters too), lilypad at a garden center, and cat tails at Michael's. Of course table cloths at party city. They are thicker than the ones at dollar tree. I have no idea where I got the ants. Some toy store I think. table setting was paper and plastic fom the kitchen! (Free stuff!!!) Hope that helps. It doesn't help me any (those costumes are long gone). Good Luck!

ILoveMyLVN 0 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 Are you going to do the tablecloths this year? How about a little red riding hood one using 2 of the poncho halves including one as the hood. She can have a little basket to carry along, and if you want extra silliness, a stuffed wolf to perch on the shoulder.
