Group Activities

Hi all,

I'd like to have some ideas on what else we could call our "Group Activities" on the monthly calendar. We do this activity every Thursday and we have at least 20-25 residents participate. We usually do exercises with a parachute, we play beach ball vollyball, we have several ball toss games, basketball games, several beanbag games using the hula-hoop, really it's exercise and fun. We play upbeat music and play games where everyone introduces themselves. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Terry

Hi,

This is a small group activity with residents who want to reminisce.

Spin the Bottle

I never played spin the bottle until recently with the residents.

Ask your nurses to save you an empty bottle of milk of magnesia

When the bottle is empty, clean it outside and in with soapy water. Be sure that there is not a resident's name on it due to hippa violations.

Seat residents at a table.

You start out being the leader.

Explain to the residents that if the bottle points to them, the person that spun the bottle will ask them a question.

The person who answers will spin the bottle the next turn.

Iniform residents that this is a chance to learn about one another. Residents were informed not to ask to personal question.

This activity gets the ladies and gentleman's socialization skills going. They answer the questions as well as ask a question to the next person.

Spinning th bottle is great fine motor coordination.

Enjoy and have fun.

Stasia

Terry -

I do a series of activities that sound similar - and I list them as ACTIVE GAMES....

Every time we do ACTIVE GAMES, its something different. Golf, bowling, kickball, etc.

Hello Terry,

I know it sounds a little strange, but when they were young they called it gym class so why don't you call it your Thursday activities gym or your Thursday gym day!! Since you are doing various things you could call it Wild and Wacky Thursdays..

Not sure how much help I gave but it's some ideas.

Good luck to you,

Shanna
