Does anyone ever order their groceries online? I thought about doing it when Thanksgiving comes to save myself from the grocery store chaos plus Safeway/Vons stores offer a free delivery for your first order.

SUPPLY QUESTION

Thanks Pennie!!!

Along this same line, I have been thinking of things I can do online to minimize time I am out on errands.

My facility has not really been supportive of letting me out on the clock to get supplies because they would rather have me get things on omy wn time to avoid paying me my hourly rate. This doesn't seems fair.

I don't mind picking up things on occaision, especially if it is somewhere like thrift store, or yard sale that would not be on work time anyway...But to do it all the time is not right.

How is everyone's facility with that? Are you guys able to run out for a supply run for 1-2 hours once or twice a month?

Iam also looking at getting Netflix and wondered what anyone's experience with it has been.

Thank you and enjoy your weekends!!

I just started using netflix and it's been great. We have a "Friday Night at the Movies" every week on the big screen. I hand the movie to one particular cna and ask her to drop it in the mail right after words. I get the next movie by Tuesday. I went with the one movie at a time plan it's roughly five dollars a month. It's cheaper than renting and I don't have to go anywhere.

We also use Netflix at our community. We do a movie on friday afternoons after lunch. All my people do not like doing anything later than 6pm. I work at AL. On a personal note I have been using Netlfix for too many years to remember. I love the fact that I am not having to return movies to the store. saves gas, time and money.

Thanks guys, for your helpful responses. I will consider it, definitely.

Are you able to go on errand runs "on the clock" or is that just inconceivable to your Admins?

What are your thoughts? It doesn't seem right to do all on our own time.

Thanks again and enjoy the rest of Sunday!!!

I do most of my running on company time. My boss is very cooperative. Also, I get comp time for the errands I run on my own time--so I just keep track of everything I do.

However, I must say, that I use my own car and my own gas-- which is getting very expensive to do.

At our executive meeting a couple of weeks ago with the residents, they complained that I am spending too much money on decorations (ARGHH!!!!) So, I told them that I drive 30 minutes further to a wholesale store on my own gas and sometimes my own time to save them money! Also, I make as much as I can from cardboard and glitter!!!!

I won't be doing this anymore! They will either get expensive decorations from Party City or none at all!!!! Because I do not need to be wasting my time and gas for the ones who don't appreciate it!!! Ok, that felt good to get off my chest!

I always do as much as I can on company time. There are of course things I just can't get away from the office to do. But usually once or twice a month I plan my errands to be done.. i.e. go to dollar store restock supplies, Sam's for soda's etc. But there are times I needed to leave for something I have forgotten or unexpected things. Usually facilities have a budget for gas, it covers staff gas for going to meetings, seminars, store etc. They usually pay so much per mile. So be sure you ask the accounting dept or admin about this. When I am out on my own time & I see something I decide to buy at a garage sale or on clearance etc... I spend my own money then I turn this it in and get a reimbursement check from the company. I usually save all of these receipts until I get about $100 worth then turn them in.

I was told along time back, that facilities get money for these items, as well as money for activities for food etc. If you don't use it then another dept is using it (example if dietary goes over their monthly budget they use yours & you never know this, same w/ nursing) So be sure you are asking about all this in your budget, read the policy manual too. We don't get paid enough to be using our own money for supplies, gas & decorations etc. This may not always be true but every facility I worked in had more budgets that they orginally tell you about.

Another way to help is see if a volunteer can make a monthly or bi-weekly store run. Be sure to have the money & list ready for him/her when they show up.

Of course if you have your own dept credit card ordering online is really nice.

One other bonus I was able to work out with my admin was a paid day at home to do my calendars and Newsletter.. if you are paying a service to do your Newsletters.. a paid day at home would be a money saving request..

good luck.. Pennie

I do weekly shopping for the residents and at the same time get supplies for activities, occasionally we go out before Snack and Chat, an activity after entertainment, to buy a snack. All of this is done on the facilities time. I don't know if I would do it on my own time. Helene from MA
