The most successful fund raisers I have ever had were bake sales & Chinese Auctions. These will only work if other staff, family, &/or volunteers help, but I have made several hundred dollars off these in the past. You may not be familiar with a Chinese auction, but they're very popular where I live. People donate items such as crafts, gift certificates to hair dressers, new items, etc. & then you sell so many tickets for $1.00. The participants sign up by a number & are given tickets with that number, then put the tickets in a container for what they want. At the end of the ticket sale, a winning number is drawn out of each container & that person wins the item. It's fun & can be very profitable. I've made over $350 before, but it's a lot of work to get the items donated. Good luck!

Hi! There are two fund raisers that have worked for me in the past:

1) Put together a "holiday raffle basket". If you have a Marshall's or "TJ Maxx" in your area, you can find great ideas and inexpensive items for the raffle basket. We usually sell the tickets for about 2-3 weeks at the cost of 1 ticket for $1, 3 tickets for $2 and 10 tickets for $5. Residents, families, and staff love it. Depending on the size of the facility, you can make a good sum.

2) Facility Bingo -- every other Friday, we sell bingo cards to staff for $1 and use the overhead to call off numbers. It takes only about 15 minutes; but the staff love it and get involved. They win half of the money collected. Hope this helps.

Hi! I haven't been working at my facility very long, but we have had two fundraisers so far, and we have one planned for January.

The residents made a quilt and we raffled it off. It only sold for $70, but because we used donated fabrics, it was 100% profit.

We also had a craft show a couple of weeks ago. Each vendor had to give the Activity Department 10% of their profits, and we also sold items the residents had made, which was 100% proft. Vendors sold Christmas items, food items (fudge, cookies, etc.), candles and lots of other homemade items. We also served food and charged $3 per plate.

One other fundraiser the Activity Department had before I started working for them was selling buckeye necklaces (we're in Ohio). This money went to our men's club (The Top Hats). The men made the necklaces with the help of the Activity Department, and they raised $140!!! They are using their money to make the resident's Christmas Party extra special this year!!!

We called our local radio station and they announced that our facility was looking for books and magazines. We received TONS of books and mags, so in January, we will be having a book sale.

I really like the Chinese auction idea! We will have to do that!!! Sometimes the extra work put into these fundraisers is well worth the time & effort!

We have fundraisers all of the time to prepare for the holidays- Our stuff runs the gambit from very basic, like a bake sale or an angel tree. To a little more complex, we have a photo printer so we make family portraits twice a year for the families and we sell them in packages.

Our biggest fundraiser is the annual art calendar. We use pictures the residents have painted as a part of the art program and create a calendar for the next year. The calendar is displayed at the Annual Art Show every December and is then offered for sale in the community. Family members love this and often purchase many calendars to send to family and friends as Christmas gifts.
