We have hoagie night for the men. They get to make their own hoagie and then they sit around and reminisce while they eat them.

You could just do something as simple as Coffee and Donuts.

Make sure you have lots of books and puzzle books. Also, adult coloring pages and crayons, markers, etc. Small crafts that they can assemble are also good to have on their.

Why not make a game out of it such as "How much rain did we get?" and place a measuring cup outside to catch the falling rain? Once the rain stops see who was the closest and award them a prize.

We are having a Wii bowling tournament next month for our residents. Each resident will get to bowl two games and the person with the highest combined score will be the winner. After the tournament we are having a pizza party and awarding trophies to all of the participants.

Hi Scott, I am new to the position of Activity Director as well and I have found that listening to the staff that has been there is really helpful. My staff has been my biggest supporter since taking over the position. I run my ideas past them and ask for their input. When you have your first meeting with your staff, ask them for their ideas. Also, ask them if there is anything they would like to see changed. My staff and some great ideas and as a team we created some new activities that the residents really enjoy. You can use a similar approach at your first Resident Council meeting. Ask the participants what types of activities they would like to see. I hope this helps. Heather

I am taking the online MEPAP course and need to interview 2 Activity Directors with atleast 10 years of experience. I am new to the field and don't know any other activity directors. I was wondering if there were any activity directors out there that have over 10 years of experience that would be able to help me out. I need to know how the activity profession has changed, tips for recruiting volunteers, ways to avoid burnout, barriers faced in providing activity programs, pointers and tips for somebody new in the field, and anything else you would like to share.
