ljsutt 0 Report Share Posted February 9, 2009 I would have never started it, but Residents when I came here have been getting money for bingo prizes. I have not had much success changing this. Costs me about 25-30 bucks a week. Admin says NO MORE! (comes outta petty cash ya know, others wanna use that $$... hehe I was snaggin it b4 them) Anyway, I need ideas, stuff that I can get that'll get their minds off of that cash!! And won't cost me too much. I'm sure you all have been down this road, gimmie some pointers, especially when presenting this change to resident council........ Wish me luck! ljsutt 0 Report Share Posted February 9, 2009 Hi-What I do for bingo prizes is to mainly give out chips, candy, etc. Small prizes from Walmart or the Dollar store are mixed in. Since mostly women play bingo, I add yarn, small photo albums, nail polish, hair clips. I just recently implemented Super Bingo once a month. We play 15 games and give out bigger prizes like sewing kits, magnifying glasses, t shirts. this is going to cut down on the daily bingo prize budget since now with the Super game, I am going to just have the chips and candy during the week. Sheilag 0 Report Share Posted February 9, 2009 Bingo prizes- The Dollar Tree is an excellent place for inexpensive pries. But another idea is sending letters to all the local businesses requesting donations. We have received loads of stuff this way. Everything from gift certificates to local restaurants to prints to costume jewelry. We also have received stationary and picture frames. The possibilities are endless and it is good for the local businesses, PR, etc. Be sure to send a note of thanks to any that donate. We had a hotel give several Doreen bottles of shampoo and conditioner, shower caps, and lotion as well as a local Avon rep giving small bottles of lotions, shower gel, and things like that. GeriActives 0 Report Share Posted February 13, 2009 That's a tough one! Can you try play money that they can then save up to purchase prizes? Another idea is to change out some of the activites - try dirty bingo or at the auction for www.nursinghomeactivites.com Good luck
TinaM58 0 Report Share Posted August 31, 2021 We were constantly trying to think of prizes that the people would like, then we started "Bring a Prize to Win a Prize". That way, people can donate thier gently used items and tinkets and play for things they all like. If someone doesn't bring a prize, they can still play. I remind the group that the prizes are as awesome and as plentiful as they decide. Works great!
