Kate 0 Report Share Posted April 15, 2005 I don't know about anyone else who is on this site everyday, like me, but things seem to be pretty quiet lately! So i thought i would post something that will hopefully spice things up! What is the most frustrating thing about your job, and how would you change it if you could? The ball is rolling, lets keep going! :pint: Kate ElderCare Activities Guide
StacieO 0 Report Share Posted April 15, 2005 Only 1 thing??? We have a tough situation here... we had a deficiency from survey regarding length of time between position change/toileting, etc. When they came back to re-survey, we weren't cleared of that deficiency. So - our DON & QA Nurse, took it upon themselves to write the newest plan of correction, w/out talking w/ anyone, including other director care staff. They were VERY specific about when these certain residents would be toileted, going so far as to specify a time. So - I was the brave one & asked the DON & QA Nurse, "who's toileting schedule is this? The staff's or the resident's?" I went on to express my concern that it was resident oriented or driven & that according to the POC, we are treating our residents like machines. That went over like a lead balloon! Now I'm black-listed (that's not the first time my big mouth has done that!) Actually, most of the aides/nurses on the floor agree w/ me, but aren't going to go against the boss. I really feel we are just plain old set up to fail. If the surveyors come back & don't clear us again, we will not be paid for medicare/medicaid admissions until it is cleared. So - now, a bunch of my residents basically have their days revolve around the toileting schedule & the rest of us (Activities, Therapies, Soc. Service) are to plan around that. Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm going home to re-think my program schedule.
Diana 0 Report Share Posted April 15, 2005 My most frustrating thing is when people as stupid questions (the old saying that no question is a stupid question goes out the window on this one). I have staff that has worked at this facility for over 20 years and we have had our little library in the front lobby as long as I have been here (4 years). The question I got was - where can they get books for residents when I (AD) am not in the facility! No logic to that question! And the old though that the AD is the ONLY person who can do activities! How absurd is that!?!
wonytineres 0 Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 I of course have all the daily challenges we all share- the belief that we are the fun and games department, the stupid questions (and yes I agree there does become a point when questions are just plain stupid), and lately volunteers have been a bit of a challendge for us. However, it seems as of late my biggest challenge has been keeping my staff motivated to perform at a level of excellence on a daily basis. I work at a large retirement community and I need all of my staff to do their best every day. Lately, it seems that 'Spring Fever' or something has hit because I've been dealing with a lot of managerial issues with my staff. The other challenge I have is not resenting my staff for using all their little 'issues' to get out of work. If you all would indulge me for a moment, every once in a while I need a break too and it seems my staff does not always recognize this. pickles4you2 0 Report Share Posted April 23, 2005 My most frustrated issue is that the D.O.N. and the Psych Coordinator feel that they run the place. Me Poor AD has nothing to say or my input is not valid. But I do get what I want but it does take a battle. We are a team.... but they think that they run the whole entire facility. I daily have to remind them that I have an Administrator. Who is deemed the only person who can give orders. Well that did feel good to vent .....Have a good one one.
