Advice Needed

First of all...thanks to everyone responsible for putting together this website. There's a lot to it, but it is very helpful!

 

I was recently pushed out of an AD position and luckily, will be starting a new job soon doing the same thing. The only difference is that before I had no assistance from any staff and now I will have 2 part time assistants. My question is how do I go in and "make a good impression" on these 2? I don't want to come across as being too overwhelming or like I know everything. They have been there awhile now and I am very hopeful that we will make a great team. Any advice on how I should approach my first few days would be helpful. Are there any good seminars out there on Managing?

There is a company called Skillpath that holds a siminar called

Excelling as a first time Manager/Supervisor that is really helpful.

Ask your Administrator if he/she has ever gotten any info. from this company,cause they are really good.Its a one day course and it had a lot of great info.Hope this helps.Gina

In my experiences in supervising I have learned that its better to get to know your employees and really get to know them. I have had employees of mine who were 3 times older than me and I would really get to know them, of course they knew I ment business and I never hesitated to write them up if they messed up, Its really good to be very open and communicate with your employees. If they know your truthful about working as a team you should not have any problem. If you have employees who are not in the "team" you really need to weed them out, they need to understand that you have your position and they have theirs and there is no reason as to why you all 3 cannot communicate properly and reach the goal of providing excellent services to your residents. I do understand that tiffs do arise, as the manager you need to resolve them 8-)~
