lllucas 0 Report Share Posted November 29, 2004 Hi, Brandy! Hi, Gina! :-) I just visited Timeslips and was quite impressed with their concept of facilitating storytellling by Alzheimer's/Dementia residents. It really sounds like a wonderful program worth the training and implementation in nursing facilities. I think it is something worth looking into for the sake of the residents and their families. Many of us are creative people and I'm sure we dread the thought of losing that ability to something like Alzheimer's Disease. If the resident's creative juices can be rekindled, then we need to do all we can to see that it happens in our facilities. Thanks for bringing up this topic. Once again, that address is http://www.timeslips.org . Sincerely, Linda Lucas, AD ;-) http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com
Brandy 0 Author Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 How do you do it? Do the alzheimer's make stories about the pictures? Brandy
lllucas 0 Report Share Posted November 30, 2004 Hi, Brandy! :-D The stories are made up by the residents. However, Timeslips trains facilitators to ask thought provoking questions and to write down the residents responses. The facilitators show the resident pictures (like those on greeting cards or advertisements) and ask the questions to stimulate thought and produce responses. Timeslips has a training program with certification. You need to take a good look at their website to find the answers you need. It looks like a great program. Best Wishes, Linda Lucas, AD ;-) http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com
Guest cindymaybe Report Share Posted December 5, 2004 Timeslips really works! I implemented this program at my facility and fot state recognition for it, also they took my rst's stories and our pictures to the national surveyor's confention and we then got national recognition. You get a picture and give each rst their own copy of it and sart writing down everything they say to the letter! This is very important. You must write it the way they say and try to put who said it, they like to here their name in the story then thye know they were a part of it. We write everything said on a dry erase board then form it into the story, never adding anything, using only what the rsts said. The Michigan State Surveryor Wendy Ehnis does a really good seminar on this. Timeslips is a part of our weekly activities, and look out if we don't have it! The rsts love and so do the families because we read them at our family nights. They like to hear that their loved one is actively involved in the story when they hear their name read behind what they said. Good luck with this, it really is a great thing.
