carrielynnstl 0 Report Share Posted February 20, 2011 I recently accepted the position of Director Of Activities for a adult day program. We hope to open in March and currently in the process of marketing and organizing. I am having a hard time coming up the with the basic list of activity supplies to start off with. Not knowing how many clients we will have or their skilll level, I am unsure what to order. I have worked in LTC as a Activity Director so the switch to adult day program is new and exciting. However I am use to having closets of unlimited supplies and now having a blank room, I am just stuck on what to order. Anyone have advice?? We use "memorystreets" question and answer books for seniors at our ALF and they love them, it keeps them involved for hours and you and the staff will also enjoy using them. I have to keep our aides from shouting out the answers. E mail me your e mail address or fax number and I will send you some sample pages to try out with your seniors. You can contact me at kimandjim9@comcast.net , also for sensory items, I just found a game called "Find it" at Target... it is an enclosed, see-through tube filled with little beads and floating inside the beads are objects that can be found hiding... the player must turn the tube and find all the objects...it may be good for someone who is shy and refusing to participate. Balloons are always good....sit everyone around a table, put on some lively music or polka music and see how long the can keep it up in the air. We have a plastic bowling set and a bean bag toss game. Make sure you have Bingo. We have a dry erase board and play hangman. You can use the memorystreets books for reference in finding songs or phrases when playing hangman...all they have to do is guess a letter and if they have a hard time thinking of a letter you can use those plastic, magnetic letters for children, just put them in a basket and let them pick a letter. Good luck. If you feel uncomfortable e mailing me I am leaving the website for memorystreets you can check out for yourself. www.memorystreets.com Kim

I also work for a Day Center program and I have Crayons Makers Pencils Word Search Printout Coloring Print out (Holidays and everyday stuff) soft balls for exercise Theraband musicial instrments Glue Scissors Color pencils Small bins like for shoes but fill them up with supplies to save space Paint paint brushes construction paper embellihments magazines BINGO CARDS Dominoes Cheakers Monopoly Uno Reminisence Books Old Movies Old Song bulletin Board trim for your calendar There's more but my hand is tired. What I do also is I when to the Dollar Store and got size flower vases and depending on the season or holiday I cover the vases with ModPodge and cover the vases with tissue paper. Valentines and Christmas Red Vases. I also get fake flowers for example Valentines I had red roses and on the tips i put glitter. St Patty day I have Green vases and green and white flowers. I was show by a senior to pull the lower wires down so when you filp it over they stay in the vase instead of cutting the wire or buying single ones. flowers make the room look nicer even if they are FAKE. Hope that helps you out. Good Luck. I have more ideas so just ask and I'll send..haha
