nelleaustinsmom 0 Report Share Posted March 15, 2010 Hey folks!! Hope this finds all doing well. I am looking to start an Activity Cart to bring to rooms when residents decline group activities, I am hoping that if they have a visual of something they will be more willing to participate. Please let me know any suggestions or ideas you have for starting such a thing; pictures would also be great!! Thank you in advance!!! Fablous 0 Report Share Posted March 31, 2010 In my faclity most of our guest are self directed. One on One is the most pouplar group I have. You Name it I do it in the comfort of their room. Planting, Panting, How To Draw, ect. I even help on laptops one on one. I let them tell me what they want on the cal. I have more people take part in activities this way. It also gives them back some control over the enviorment they find them selves in. A choice sometimes is the most important thing you can offer to someone. You never know what someone might like may just be the best activity you ever had. Jenny Livingston Activities jll@usa.com

hpt0413 0 Report Share Posted April 7, 2010 I would get a cart that has room for a variety of activities. I would decorate the cart like a float in a parade. The cart itself would draw attention to the members who aren't interested in partcipating. Fill the cart with a veriety of different activities such as: knitting items, painting, drawing, books, beading, bingo, board games, etc. Ask the members to show you what stands out and maybe you can go from there. Hope that helps a little.
andi12502 0 Report Share Posted April 8, 2010 We gave a call to a music organization called "Musicians on Call" they link hospitals and nursing homes to local musicians in urban areas and have several organizations around the country. The musicians linked with them do bed side concerts and travel room to room visiting residents or patients one by one. Many of those associated with this organization are major music artists. However if you are outside their sphere of influence they will send you a comprehensive package of cds and music dvds upto about a 100 that residents can borrow off a carrt as well as 3 personal cd players with batteries. They tailored our package to our very yound population and many of our residents borrow cds on an ongoing basis as a music library.
ceciliacurtis 0 Report Share Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) I usually keep a cart for room-visits. My favorite is a manilla folder with pockets of differtent colors i glued on. a total of eight . inside of pockets i place flash cards or cut-out pictures. these can be changed to holiday or seasons. you can use pictures of family members as well. the resident picks a pocket and tells me what the picture is , what it reminds them of and it just goes on and on. they tell such great stories. i have aromatherapy on the cart. a swatch with different textures. they touch and tell me how it feels, what could be made of such fabric and so on. lotions as stated before. nail polish. cds. newspaper for current events. flash cards of colors and words. playing cards. combs and brushes. alcohol gel...puzzles. i wish you great success!!!
