Ella 0 Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 Does anyone have any new/old/exciting Birthday Party ideas? The residents and I are tired of the same old thing. We do birthday cake and ice cream, have done sing-a-longs, cake walks (wheelchair style) etc. but I feel I am in a rut and need some fresh ideas. Any ideas you have to offer would be appreciated! Thanks!
catlover30 0 Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 I'm starting this new thing..... no more 1 hour birthday parties... instead its a BirthDAY celebration.... it has a theme to what the birthday lady or man likes... in example... one of my residents likes i miean LOVES Elvis so I am going to have that day be all about her & Elvis!!!! You can make the cake and have the residents decorate the cake! Birthday BINGO Pass the presents (like hot potato except no one is ever out... you wrap a present in newspaper after newspaper with foil and clear wrap and pass the wrapped present and when the music stops whoever has it tries to unwrap it when the music starts it goes on again) Pinatas are always fun and fun to make too! GOOD LUCK!
Ella 0 Author Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 I really like the "Pass the Present" idea! Sounds like fun! Depending on how fast it goes and how fast the residents get the "Present" open, I think I will add a variation to your idea and have a second present ready so we can have a second-go-round. When we have our Birthday Party it is a celebration for everyone with a Birthday in that month so the "Special Theme" i.e. Elvis may not work for us but it is a great idea. I'll see what I can do with that as well. Thanks for the ideas!
heavenstar 0 Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 We have the same thing-- a party every month with all of the residents. The 30 or so birthday people for the month sit in a special section. We also serve cake and ice cream. We have some kind of entertainment every month- usually volunteers. We do several piano class recitals, tango dancers, singers and other musicians. Also, several times a year, we will put on a show by our own residents such as talent shows, fashion shows, magic shows, etc. Once a year, we have a grandchildren talent show which is always a big hit. Also, we have a multi-ethnic chorus, which is a group of residents who sing in different languages. For our Thanksgiving/birthday party we do a pot luck dinner and play music in the background. In February, we have a Mardi Gras theme with volunteers who bring barbecue dinner and play bingo. In May we always have a Hawaiian Luau with cruise/party music. Hope this gives you some new ideas! Thanks! I have different ladies groups sponsor my monthly b-day parties. Red Hat Society, Church women's groups, Book clubs. I send a letter every July to the different clubs asking them to sponsor 1 party during the year. I get good response from this. I also send a reminder to them the month before the month they choose to sponsor. It is their choice what to bring. I only ask for a snack of some kind and a "Happy" for each of the resident's with birthdays. Some months the parties are the same but they are also different because of the people who are sponsoring them.
