jcat 0 Report Share Posted February 13, 2007 (edited) Hi, I"m working in a home that has 170 residents and the population runs from the age of 19 and up. I have a two locked units which consist of a alzheimers unit and a behavior unit and the rest are short and long term residents. I have a baritric program as well. I"m having a hard time coming up with party act .and entertainment to fit all. I have myself which you can imagine the paper work and meeting of a facilty that size and 2 girls that work 30 to 32 hrs and a girl that works 4 to 14 hrs and a girl who works 35 hrs. and we have 3 night time act. as well I'm having a hard time figuring how to fit all generation together and to make parties more fun and to find entertainment for all to enjoy. I also have to figure out how to adjust in the budget all the different foods since thier is more sugar free and regular in the budget. Any Help would be Great!!! I don't know that anything I can suggest will be of any use but I will put a few things here that pop into my head & hopefully you can use them &/or it will get those creative juices flowing. You just never know I know that thy are using a lot of the music from the 60's & 70's on TV now. So possible that can be something used in an activity or at a party. It would cover poss. cover some of the younger res to res in say their 50's. When having a party make a mixed CD to play that could hit all age groups but just don't put any Heavy Metal, RAP & twangy C&W. Ask res from differnt generations to help you by picking aut a couple of songs for the mix CD. Go for types of music that are easy listening, light rock, old classical etc. This way everyone would get a little of what they like & who knows you may cross the generation gap with some of them. How about sports for a discussion making trivia game or something like that using the older players & mixing it with the current players stats now. Ususally a good winner for all ages is to do somethng that they work together in aiding others. Making something for the childrens hospital, or any local charity groups needing things. The Alzheimer unit & Behavioral unit may need to be have there on seperate calendar & occ. mix the units/res together, when all your staff is on hand to b sure of a smooth act. program. I don't know whatelse to say right now, other than every activity planned on your calendar does not need to fit all of your res at the same time. Just be sure that everyone has an activity on it that she/he likes/might attend. Do a Facility Population Assessment & to make sure that your calendar is balanced for everyone. Best of luck. As nice as it would be to have a "party for all," perhaps one solution would be to have smaller, more intimate socials with those involved. Delegate your staff to help out in the appropriate places, so that your parties/socials can happen on the same day. How blessed you are that you have so much help! We do a mardi gras party every year and I buy plain masks and craft supplies (feathers, glitter and sequins) that they use to decorate their masks before the party. They wear their masks to the party complete with costumes if they have them. We have a vote on the winners-- most beautiful, most decorated, most unique, etc. They are also given beads when they walk in the door. For table decorations, I use manequin heads-- decorate with mask, beads and a feather boa. We also play bingo- and don't forget the Kings cake-- the winner is the one who finds the baby.
