sarahlovesav 0 Report Share Posted December 27, 2005 At one nursing home I worked at in Activities, we did "diversionary activities" for resident's who mainly stayed in their room. We made a cart to wheel to each room specifically with things like dominoes, card games, nail polish and things to do hair and makeup/manicures, puzzles, lotions and things for sensory stimulation. You can add things each day like sweet foods/salty/sour to help resident's identify tastes/textures/smells. I made up little games like throwing a few items in a brown paper sack and having the resident reach their hand down inside and identify each item w/out being able to LOOK and see what the item was:) I had bubbles on the cart and things like that...material or yarn for knitting and working w/ your hands. There are so many things you can do...
DjHAWKY 0 Report Share Posted December 28, 2005 One on One carts is what we called them, very useful. We had a rolling cart from Dietary converted to an activity cart. I received a hint from a state surveyor that they really frown on being unprepared when doing your One on Ones. I had to leave a residents room to restock my cart, while state was in the building, So my advice is to keep records of your one on one residents and their likes and preferences, and be prepared with everything on your cart. It will save you alot of time and if state is in the building, especially helpful I love this site and the members site members.activitydirector.Com for the newsletters and calendars.. way worth the 9.95 a month

BartMan 0 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 Hi Connie , Happy Friday !! I know where I work I got mine from the Nurses. They had to upgrade their old medicine carts and they just happened to be nice enough to give me theirs ) If you work at a place that has nurses then you could ask them if they have any old ones in storage............... Hope this helps and Good Luck !! BartMan
soduspoint 0 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 We use a 3 tier rubbermaid cart. It is narrow enough to stay in your office space, but has enough shelves and room to hold a variety of organized items

bigchris 1 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 I use the METRO brand of carts that are meant for hotels and service industries. They cost a bit more, but they are a heck of a lot more sturdy and they are germ resistant..... Look for a hotel supply company and shop around, sorry I have had it for years and don't have the origina catalog.... BC
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted February 20, 2007 I got mine from the dietary dept. I also a second 1 from them & used as my cart for Bingo prizes. They are metal & 3 tier not the best ones out there but they were free & are easy to disinfect.
