HI guys!

I was just reading the post about men's activities and a few comments were made about "near beer" and little beer. In our facility we celebrate Happy Hour - with the support from ALL administrative staff! In fact, our ADON has even purchased and served the alcohol herself. The residents have their resident's right to enagage in activities of their choosing.

Anyone have any other ideas on this?

I work in a very conservative Christian facility and we shy away from any alcohol related items. However, we do let residents have it in the AL and with a doctor's script in the NH.

We don't serve alcohol during any type of group activity but do give it to individual residents with a Doctors order. If a person coming into the nh has a drink before supper or before bed before entering our facility they are usually allowed to continue this practice.

We serve alcohol to any resident with doctors orders. I have no problem with it. We do serve "virgin" drinks as well for those who want a drink, but can't have the alcohol.

We don't serve alcohol in any activities, though I serve na beer, wine and virgin drinks in activities. Residents who want a drink can do so with a dr. order in their rooms or in informal groups. Part of our challenge is that 3 of our 6 admitting docs are very conservative Christians who do not believe in drinking and will not usually write an order for their residents who wish to drink unless the resident makes an issue out of it. However, if we take a group out to dinner and they order a drink on the side (and they pay for it themselves) I see nothing unless they have a medication that they really shouldn't mix with alcohol....in which case the are quietly counseled as to why having a drink isn't a good idea, and then the choice is theirs as long as they are their own decision maker.

We always serve champagne at our New Year's Party, and wine during Shabbat. The residents frequently bring vodka to our trips and parties-- but I usually pretend not to notice. Once we gave small bottles of vodka to all the men for father's day. Having a happy hour would be a good idea, but who pays for the alcohol?

We have a happy hour every week. There adults and if they want a drink we give it to them, unless there is a Dr. order, then it's near beer. The owner pays for that but some have there ownand keep it in our activity refrigator. We serve crackers and cheese and have it late Fridays. We also have wine and soda quite a few come to this.

We are required as a "Best Practice" to have a social everyday (7 days a week) where alcohol is offered. I feel a bit strange and get strange looks when I offer someone a glass of wine at our Ice Cream Social. Even at our weekly happy hour there are not many who want beer or wine but we must offer it as it is an adult appropriate quality of life issue. We also must have it on our menus and meal displays as an option. Of course we know who can and can not have it. When we go out a few will order a drink and it gets charged to them as does the meal with their monthly bill.

Guest Mi. maint dept

Hello, I work in the maint dept but I help as I can due to the fact that our AD has not a clue. The place where I work really wants the resid. to have the freeedom of choice. That means if they want it they can have it.A dumb rule.
