bigchris 1 Report Share Posted July 1, 2004 Hello all, I decided to take this on since there were no topics listed. I am in Georgia and we are having a time with the "feeding" issue. As you may know, one of the easiest ways to get participation is to offer food. However, in GA you have to be certified to feed. This means a CNA. Does anyone else deal with this? Also...on Hydration. We do a hydration program and drink cart. Anyone else? Chris
gina 2 Report Share Posted July 1, 2004 Hello Chris ! We had this topic on a while back on the "Open Disscussion"board. At my facility we have a feeder training program for all new hires and volunteers, that way everyone is covered when state pops in and we always have coverage in that area. Garnish with mint sprigs. Diana 0 Report Share Posted July 26, 2004 Hey, here in Texas, I don't think we even need certification - I haven't heard anything! I serve food to the residents all the time - is that what you are talking about? We have certain staff that feed residents at mealtime, but I've had no problems during activities. Guest Guest Report Share Posted August 11, 2004 In Illinois you must be certified to feed but can be certified by training for just feeding if properly instrusted. This was passed earlier this year heard about it through reading material from Comprehensive Consulants. But snacks in activities are consider much different any many cases. I have discussed this with the Springfield office. Just make sure you follow all safety concerns such as thicken liquids and chopped or pureed. If you have diabetics they must be explained that it is not for the best of their diet and allow to make a choice. Remember we are now being allowed to let the resident make a choice! use it to their best interest! Remember to always follow good handwashing. In 19 yrs of inspection this seems to all be the main concern but why not it's a concern to me if I eat out.
