gina 2 Report Share Posted June 10, 2004 Hi Raw42, Go to: http://www.njactivitypros.org/index.htm Then you can look for local associations in your area and call one to find out where and when the next class is. Good luck. Have fun !! gina :-D

Pennie 26 Report Share Posted June 17, 2004 Hi Theresa, I saw that you teach the MAPAP courses. Someone asked a question about being certified, I think the name was Kelly but I am not 100% sure now :-o Any way the posting is on the message board under the topic Activities charting & Forms. This person works in Austin & not sure about some suff. I answered it but not sure if I was clear in my answer. Could you go to it read it? Feel free to add, expand or what ever, sometimes what is written vs what in the head; well seem to come out different, you know :-? Thank You much
Guest Theresa Thorland Report Share Posted June 19, 2004 Hi Pennie I read your replies and in my opinion, I say you did an excellent job in anwering the questions. Incidently, my facility just went through state survey and we were tagged on F248 for not providing activities to ALL residents in our secured Unit. This occured when the remaining residents were not offered activity programs by the nursing staff when the activity staff had a group of residents out to Devotions. Very frustrating to me, but I see your reply stressed ALL staff are to be involved in the activity programs. It doesn't just fall on our department. You can bet there are some major changes coming at my facility!! With full support from the Administrator. Man, 37 facilities---you are busy! Guest cbar577329 Report Share Posted July 9, 2004 Hi, I've seen you e-mail address on a website and I thought maybe you could be of assistance to me. I see that you have a background as Activity Director...I would like to know what type of education you have, as well as what you background is as Activity Director. Are you certified? What did you do to become accredited? Any information you can provide me would be of great help. Please send this information ASAP.
Guest Theresa Thorland Report Share Posted July 17, 2004 Hi, I'm not sure if you're referring your questions to me but will answer them in the event you are. I'm a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) as well as an Activity Consultant, Certified (ACC). My educational backgroud includes a BS in Community Recreation, MA in Experiential Education, MS in Health Education, and a minor in Health Promotion. Don't know what got into me during that time frame other then where I worked had excellent incentive/re-embursement for education. I've been an instructor for the MEPAP 1 through NCCAP since 2001. I've worked in various capacities as a Recreational Therapist since 1983. Hope I answered your questions. I'm curious as to why you asked and needed the infomation as soon as possible?? dawn 0 Report Share Posted July 25, 2004 It is best not to relie on your facility to help with your education, so you do not feel obligated to stay with them. it does take a lot of work to become cert I know it took me a few years to complete every thing on my own. I'm proud of my self. See if you state association might be able to help in any way if you can't afford to go to class
Guest KHughes Report Share Posted September 21, 2004 We have listed all of the pre-approved MEPAP Instructors on the www.nccap.org website. You can access it by clicking on "MEPAP Course Instructor Listing" and follow the instructions for finding an instructor near you. Also contact instructors in sourrounding areas as many travel and may set up a course in your facility or area if there are enough students. Also there are online and homestudy options as well.
