wubby1963 0 Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 Just getting started in the field again after five years out of it and will be taking the place of a lady who did craft time every week. I plan on changing some of the craft times to fun foods , but want opinion on what others of you do for craft time and if you even have it. mashonda 0 Report Share Posted April 27, 2006 not sure what type of facility you work in, but i work in LTC and we have an arts and craft activity every thursday morning. i tried to change this as well several years ago and i was met with great resistance by the residents. i would suggest that you bring it up with the resident council and be prepared to explain what you are planning to put in place of craft time. hope this helps. Melete 0 Report Share Posted April 29, 2006 Hello, to my mind it depends on the residents. are they interested in crafts.? what are their capabilities etc etc. I too have just returned back to the field of work after about a 2 year abscence. the mind boggles. 8-) .LOL. I have been predominantly working in high care facilities. And found i had to become more creative in what Craft Time means. I have in the past organised local visiting quilting groups etc to come in to do displays and give demonstrations etc etc...but then i discovered Banners. So this became our Projects. Instead of a craft in a day they became more of a monthly or longer projects. I found an adapted craft that uses sticks and wool..to create a sort of pom pom that can then be glued onto fabric to create a 3d effect for Christmas banners. SPring time banners..etc...etc...this worked well and i am just about to introduce it to the new residents i have just started wroking with in a high care facility. Oh and with this craft..as long as they can somewhat hold a stick and wind wool around it they can do it. i have had totaly blind people do it. in fact one lady was the best at it. Good Luck!
