RegalPalms 0 Report Share Posted February 11, 2006 (edited) Here is a good one, we were doing a reminiscing activity for an alzheimers group where you would say a word then they would give the opposite. I asked for the "Opposite of Sunny" and one resident exclaimed "Cher" !--------> :-D Edited February 11, 2006 by RegalPalms
Hope 0 Report Share Posted February 13, 2006 We have a Resident with Az who is there but doesn't always seem that way, by some of the interesting statements she makes. We bowl every week and this Resident is tilted back in her chair for positioning; When using the bowling ramp, she needs to be tilted up. After having bowled, my assistant, standing beside her the whole time, told her she was taking her back to her spot, and proceeded to tilt the chair back. The Resident grunted and my assistant joked, "What are you grunting for-I'm the one doing the pulling (this chair is hard to position)?" Whereupon our lady replied, "You scared the s... out of me." The room went crazy, because, with this Resident, it's not what she says, but how she says it (Yes, she was laughing, too). At an earlier bowling day (bowling must bring out her best sayings), she used the ramp and made a strike, having had much encouragement to use her hand to push the ball down the ramp. She usually just fingers it and wants to put her fingers in the holes.) When we told her she made a strike, since she didn't seem to realize it, showing no excitement, we told her she had done well, and asked her if she was excited. She replied, "Well, how 'bout that." Calmly. Another Resident, who also has trouble wanting to use her hands to push the ball, when told she had a strike one day, said, "Well, la-de-dah." BTW, bowling can attract more Residents than Bingo at our place-we have more med functioning Residents than high; but the high functioning ones like it too; they just don't use the ramp. oldsbag 0 Report Share Posted February 14, 2006 My kids put on a surprise 50th birthday party for me at work. It was my day off, but my daughter was booked to play Christmas carols on the flute(Dec. 24) I didn't think anything of it, since I had made the plans with her. My hubby had bought me an amazing suit for my 5oth, and I didn't know why they were so set on me wearing it to a casual carol sing. Anyway, I wore it, and everyone was there....even the dour couple who keep to themselves, and she will only speak if HE says it ok. She motioned me over to speak to her.....and whispered in my ear...."you look delicious". All of a sudden I could see who she used to be, when she had a voice, and a mind, and a will of her own, before a husband told her when she needed to use the bathroom. If my hug could only convey what her words meant to me. I wish I could bring that out in her again. If only he would let her come to some things alone. I will never forget it.... Guest Tinki Report Share Posted February 14, 2006 One of my residents who was 94 would always ask about 20 minutes after an meal, "Did we eat yet," and when we would tell that she had just eaten she would say, "Well did I enjoy it?" I love the folks that still have their humors intact- makes the job more interesting! Karen
