  1. Getting help transfering the residents to an activity in our facility in the evenings is a concern of mine because most of them want to take a nap or the nurse wants them to be put to bed because she thinks they get to tired. Any suggestions?
  2. All this is new for me. I am enrolled in the MEPAP 1 class and I'm learning all kinds of new stuff. It is very interesting to me that there is so much to learn. I could use all the help I can get and any advise. I am very nervous about the course and I read where I could get extra credit by getting on this site. I hope I am doing this right.
  3. This was a very nice poem. I going to try to copy this and read it to our residents. We have one that ask for a hug from just about everyone she sees. I took her out shopping with me to do the resident shopping and she was asking the clerks if she could have a hug. They reconized her because she had a Genesis Health Care badge on as volunteer. She is one of our residents that can do more for herself and is very active.
  4. Replying to the staffing question. Are facility has 68 beds and as of right now we have no empty beds. We work 40 hours a week and there is myself and the activity director. We schedule one of us usually staying until 7:30 three nights a week . We take turns doing this. And it works pretty good. Week-ends I work 4hours on Saturday and the activity director 6 on Sundays. We ask at resident counsil if week-end activities is adequate and if there is any problems? They are very happy with the way things are working. And this is all documented.
  5. Teaching computers to the residents has been challenging for me. I am learning new things every day since I started this job and now the MEPAP 1 030309 class. But I know if a 90+ year old resident can learn it I surely could. I am in the process of teaching one of our residents to learn his alphabet using the computer as a teaching aide. He knows them up to k now and also knows where the letters are on the keyboard.
  6. hello I am new in the activity department also less than six months, and bingo is the main thing our residents wants to do. We have bingo 4x's a week scheduled. I am finding the residents are getting very bossy, and fighting who is going to set where, this makes the new residents leave. Also we have some that think they have to have matching cards so they both can win the same time. They have been warned about their behavoir. I do reward them on a weekly bases. I let them choose what they want out of our bingo store (candy, gum, lotions, etc.) I also take stuff to the Joy Group ones who we have bingo in there room. Any suggestions?
