What are we doing this coming Nursing Home Week? First of all, Sunday is Mothers’ Day so we are celebrating it with a hired entertainer followed by pinning flowers to every mother and snacks to be followed afterwards. We will have barbecue in the patio with residents. Nurses will have a fun BINGO and ice cream socials. On Wednesday, we are having a ceremony with an invited Minister to share an Inspirational Talk on "Ageless Love". This is the theme for the year. Thursday will be group games to include all residents with a cake and refreshments prepared by the Dietary Department. Friday, lunch and dinner for the night shift provided by Woodhaven, our facility pharmacy. We all look forward to this event and it sounds fun. Benilda

I definitely say it's the newsletter and calendar. I know I'll be expecting my AD to ask me to write a newsletter and prepare the monthly calendar one day now that I'll be finishing my this course. That will be my test from my boss. If I were to be asked to do such thing, this will be my first time. I know she will be guiding me but I am sure it will work out after sometime. I know she is a good boss but I don't feel comfortable about it. Well, there is a saying that "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again” or "if there's a will, there's a way. Benilda

I am an AA doing activities with early dementia residents. This is according to actual experience. We conduct activities such as ring toss; horseshoe, basketball, bowling and other things that make them do something. It works. You smile with them when they want to make it perfect. You just need to encourage them just to try doing it. I hope these suggestions would help. Benilda

Hi, We post a large calendar in the hall wall where everyone and also residents can read. We bring it to Kinko's for enlargement. It is really difficult to read those calendars in resident's rooms but maybe you'll just have to prepare a daily activity schedule to be distributed everyday. We announce it also in the overhead everyday. I hope these recommendations would help if you haven't done them yet.
