Thanks for any help!

Do any of you provide evening activities between 5p and bedtime? What works best when preparing to facilitate evening activities?

Hey All! Long time no see!!
We have an upcoming visit from the Department of Justice. I was wondering if anyone has gone through it, and if so could you give me some insight on what they might look for within recreation/activities?
TIA for any info!!

What types of activities/events do your volunteers do with your residents?
Also, when you have just one person who wants to volunteer, what do they normally do?
Thanks for any help/ideas!
-
THANKS Cindy! Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated as well.

Hey everyone. I am looking for ideas for our family council meetings. We would like to do something fun that gets our residents AND their families involved. Anything other than family day picnics??
Thanks in advance!

Is there a standard definition describing what "participates in 2/3 of the time, 1/3 of the time, etc."?
i.e. - what is considered less than 1/3 amount of time?

Does anyone have any experience with a person who has this diagnosis? If so, could you enlighten me with your care-plan info?
We have a resident who has Trisomy 21, MR-moderate, and Smith-Magenis Syndrome. The resident does not communicate well. She recognizes tones (i.e. when asked how are you doing, she can respond "fine"; she can also respond with "good morning" when spoken to). Other than this, she cannot respond to anything and has not done well with tactile stimulation.
Any care plan ideas for this resident will be most helpful.
Thanks!!

We finally have all of ours in place. They have been well-received by our residents. We have actually had more success with our LOWER FUNCTIONING residents than with our higher functioning residents. How bout that!!
Ive been so excited to see some of our inactive residents come out and play the Wii. Well-worth the purchase.

Actually we changed our plans now........we may have a resident T-ball game instead of the staff playing flag football.
What do yall think?
Some other ideas Im hoping to do are:
male appreciation day: have some classic cars come out and let the residents examine under the hood
Female appreciation day: get a local quilting club to come out and show off some quilts

BUMP BUMP!!!! What is everyone planning??
My thoughts are as follows:
Flag football game and cookout
Train ride
Valentine’s Day in May with singing quartet
Sock Hop

For those of you that have these at your facilities, what kind of rules to you have set forth for the staff, including other staff than recreation staff?
Also, what are your ways to keep the Wii System secure when you are not there?
-
What type of activities would you provide for a LTC resident who is deaf, mute, and blind?
-
Anyone have any experience in LTC with this type of resident? If so, what were some of your care plans for that resident?

I am a CTRS, with a degree in Therapeutic Receation. I think the field is great, but you have to look for networking opportunities. You should become a member of ATRA, as well as your local TR chapter.
Check with the University of Georgia. They may have an online degree program.
Email me at achskward@yahoo.com if you need more info or if I can help you in any other way.

We've had a helluva time trying to find them. A co-worker and I just go to all the stores, ask them when their shipments will arrive, and make sure we are present when a shipment comes in. They all are telling us that they never know if they are going to get any Wii's in or not on any particular shipment.
Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, Toys R Us, and Wal-Mart are all of the stores we are targeting. They are the only ones who will accept our tax exempt number.
It's been a very tiring process, especially when these stores are all telling us that we can only buy one system per credit card.

Miguel,
I tried to email you at msarasa@thevillagehealthhemet.com but it bounced back.
-
Miguel,
Could you send me a copy of both to achskward@yahoo.com?
Thanks!

For those of you using the Wii in your LTC facilities, how has it been received? Im the supervisor for 11 buildings and we chose to purchase a wii system for 9 of our 11 buildings. Ive been able to purchase 7 so far, but these last 2 have been HELL!!! to get!
Anyway, I think they will be a great benefit for our residents and I look forward to doing an in-service with them! hehe
PS: I have one of my own and really enjoy it.
