I am not sure about the rest of the country, but here in Fla. our wonderful Gov. Bush signed a bill to reduce medicare payments by 5%. This has translated to almost a quarter mill. loss of revinue just for our bldg alone.(115) The corporate muckidy mucks decided to make up for this loss by cutting the Activity Asst. positions in all Bldgs owned by Age Institute(also connected with Extendicare) as well as all maint assist. and other internal positions. Has anyone else have this happen to you?
On an upnote to all of this, Nsg has come to bat over this and I now have 2-3 CNA's assigned to activities daily for all main activities. Even my 2 evening programs are now being run by the CNA's. It's just bingo, but at least it's getting done till I can get some summer volunteers to help as well.
It certainly is not an easy transition, especially with CNA's here in a union. I have had many that are bitching about it, but the DON is adamant that this is now their job. I have been thanking/praising them, giving them goodies, scratch off tickets etc. Hoping that this will cool their heels a bit. It has been helping some.
I hope this is not a trend, and if it has not happend to you, I sure hope it does not happen to you or to your residents.
