  2. At my facility we provide three different socials for our residents each month, the first is happy hour which all of our residents participate in, the next one is our woman's social for the lady's only, and our men's breakfast club for the gentlemen. I chose our men's breakfast club because it is very much different then any of our social programs we provide for our residents, for happy hour our dining services provide food and refreshments for our residents and this takes place in the main dining room, for our woman's social our dining services also provides food and refreshments this takes place in the main dining room as well. our dining services does not provide anything for our men's breakfast club, our men's breakfast club is held in my activities office, my activities office has a full kitchen of it's own, stove top, oven, refrigerator, microwave, and a two compartment sink, No other employees are aloud to use the activity department kitchen. I bake cupcakes for birthday parties, and I cook the men breakfast club in there. I start work at 6:00 a.m. so I could have their breakfast ready by 8:00 a.m.. I would have one activities aide on hand that morning to help with the social. The month before our social I would make a list of what we would need for the breakfast club after that I would summit the list to the owner and she would provide us with the items. The items include: Fresh Fruit, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Pancake Mix, Oil, Fat Free Milk, Butter, Syrup, Home Fries, and Cheese, sometimes I make them western omelets that they really enjoy!!! For refreshments we provide orange juice, coffee, hot tea, and creamer. I can fit two long tables in my activities office so our gentlemen can be comfortable. For activities we provide two news papers, a radio, we talk about resent sports events, the local news for their enjoyment, and what ever come to their minds. I think having a special place for our men's breakfast club gives them a feeling of importance and they really enjoy that. Some times they bring things to discuss with each other. For me cooking for our men's breakfast club is easy it's just like cooking for your own family, but your family members are 15+ men. I enjoy it just as much as they do.

  3. That sounds like a fun activity spankylee99! I love that the surrounding neighborhood is a part of it too! I hope that you will be able to do it this year. We had a Mardi Gras Pet Parade down the halls of the assisted living community where I volunteer. An animal rescue group conducted the parade. The dogs were dressed in cute Mardi Gras outfits. The residents wore colorful beads, feather boas and Mardi Gras masques. After the dogs strutted their stuff, the residents had a little party and ate King Cake. This happened about two weeks before the facility had to stop allowing visitors in due to the coronavirus.

  4. The 4th of July out door parade watch the activities department is planning for is having our residents start from now making a list and discussing with us what they would like to make for the parade route. This is something we do every year. Our community center and surrounding neighborhood walk up and down the streets with floats etc. our residents will have the projects they made for this parade sitting in their wheel chair on the sidewalk grassy area

  5. I think your Men's Breakfast club is really unique! I love it! I am a Memory Care Specialist and I love the idea of coming up with activities for the guys its quite a challenge sometimes. I would love to create a Memory Care Guys club for the men in my Memory Care. I think its a challenge that hasn't quit have been meet yet. I think things like this and little jobs or tasks they had would be great for them. I haven't tried it yet but i would like to create busy boards with a wrench and nuts and bolts, and a game where they can hammer the "nails" using a rubber mallet and golf tees.

  6. I saw a great post on Facebook (Activity Directors Desk). They had their residents hold up a white board with messages to family and friends. Some of the messages were: "I'm doing well; call me sometime; Love, Mom." " I miss you; I love you, Mom. " "I hope to see you soon! Love, Grandma."

  7. Thanks for the link! We do not have the ability to stream on the TV or have a channel, nor do we have any smart devices, tablets to do activities! I am worried the state will ask about what we are doing regarding technology.... we are of course calling family members with their own phone but not skype, etc.
