eflagg 0 Report Share Posted August 2, 2005 I have a young resident that is very busy in the building, he is very alert. I have been asked to find him something that he could daily or almost daily out side the building. The only thing that I can come up with is to send him to a near by college to take classes that he might enjoy. :-( Please help.
wonytineres 0 Report Share Posted August 2, 2005 Would he be able to volunteer? Perhaps your local library could use help with their kids program/shelving books, humane soceity-walking dogs/playing with animals, Salvation Army meal program. If he is unable to volunteer due to functional/cognitive limitations is there a senior center in your town (of couse assuming he is age 50 or over) where he could go, many of our Assisted Living residents attend programs at our local senior center. Also, check out you city's department of leisure/recreation for programs which may be appropriate. The YMCA also may have classes which may be of interest. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest KathyAA Report Share Posted August 2, 2005 I would first check to see what he would like to do. Sometimes we assume that someone would like to do something only to do all the planning and find out that they can't or don't want to have formal programming. Perhaps an assessment of hos interests, what he would like to do and ask him if he would like to assist the activities department and help out in the facility. I recently had a gentlesman who wanted to "do something" and we all racked our brains trying to figure out what was "needed"...meantime he started taking all the smoking residents to the smoking areas. He had found his job all on his own! For month he took residents back and foth to the smoking areas and loved his "job"...
