lorlor4u 0 Report Share Posted July 25, 2005 :-D :-? I am a new director in corp. facility in WA. state. I am the first director at this facility. I have only been here for a couple of months. They have been open less than a year, and are only about 40% capacity. I have been basically starting from scratch. I guess my biggest concern is that I only am allowed 40 hours per week, and I have no assistance (aids). I guess what I am asking is if someone might be able to tell me how to priortize my efforts. Right now a large portion of my time is transporting residents, and that has been the reason for cancelled and posponed Activities, much to my dismay. Also, We have a limited budget at best. Any advice and ideas anyone might have for me would be greatly appreciated. I want to get organized before I burn out, or go crazy. To be amoung the best I need the tools. My goal is to assist our residents in living a retired life that hasn't yet retired!
Guest Tinki Report Share Posted July 25, 2005 Hello - welcome the board and the field! 1. What type of facility are you in? How many residents are there? 2. The caregiving staff should be helping you transport the residents to activities. Are they helping you? Let us know so we can future assist you! Don't stress it will all come together! Diana 0 Report Share Posted July 25, 2005 From what I know of new facilities, and small ones at that, it usually falls on the Activity Director to transport residents (I am assuming you are talking about doctor's appointments and/or activities). It is not fun, but AD's are usually considered "not team players" if they do stick their necks out to stay in the facility and do activities instead of going on transports. You are not ALONE!!!! My best advice, keep trying! For any activity director, it feels like our jobs never end at the end of our 40 hours a week! Try to find as many volunteers as you can to fill in those timeslots that you simply can't fill as one person! I have been an AD for 5 years and have been the only person in activites 95 % of the time - it is the beast of the job! It sounds like you are gung-ho about your job and that will get you very far!!!! Don't lose your gusto - it's hard to gain back! Welcome to our site, hope the ideas get you by from day to day - I know it helps me!
