donnamazon 0 Report Share Posted March 31, 2004 Well, here I am all set to do this big shindig at my new assisted living facility (They have done a fashion show for mother's day every year since they opened (3 years ago) and this is a very important function. Anyway, the person who was the Social Director before me said that this shop called Victorian Reflections always helps out with providing the residnets clothes. Well wouldn't you know it they are booked for three shows in May and will not budge to help me out. Anyway, I found another group to provide clothes that are very glamourous but because I was planning on a Victorian Tea...I need an idea for a glamourous (Hollywood like) theme for centerpieces, decorations, etc. I already have 6 young men who wil be dressed in suits escorting the models down a red carpet (in true hollywood fashion). I thought that I could line the run way with black gift bags containing gold (or silver) tissue paper and the handles would be tied to black and gold (silver) balloons. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Donna :-P
gina 2 Report Share Posted March 31, 2004 Hi Donna, It sounds like your gonna have a fun day with your Mother's Day Fashion Show. I've never had a Fashion show, but I was thinking since your doing a "Hollywood"theme,What about getting some pictures of the old Hollywood stars like Greta Garbo,Rudolf Valentino,Kathrine Hepburn,Clark Gable, etc.and hanging them in the room you are using?(you can find pictures of the old stars on the internet and print them out, or check out local video stores, maybe?)For the Centerpieces, get foam stars(available at craft stores)and paint them gold, let dry, then put a picture of an old star on them.Or,you could get clear glass bowls and fill with water, put some gold glitter in the water, and then get gold or yellow star shaped floater candles and place in bowl and put one on each table. .Place Gold and Black Balloons everywhere, and Gold and Black streamers on tables. Then, just a thought, but maybe get a bunch of fake roses and separate and put clear wrap around each one with a gold and black ribbon, make up some little tags for each rose and attachto the rose(examples of sayings to put on roses:"If Mothers were flowers,I'd pick you" or "To the Prettiest Rose in the room",you get the idea)and have your fashion show men hand them out to your Ladies on Mothers Day when they come off the "stage".Well,Good Luck, and have fun!!!!Gina :-)
heavenstar 0 Report Share Posted March 31, 2004 We had an oscar party last year for our volunteers and it looked wonderful! Your theme will too! For table decorations, I took a round flat styrofoan and covered the sides in gold ribbon. on the top, poked gold and black shiny tissue paper all over. Then a clear rod about 2 feet through the middle. On top of that, another smaller styrofoam disk with tissue paper. A cardboard disk was cut out to look like a movie reel, then glittered gold. We took long strips of negatives or unsed film rolls and added to it, wrapping around the clear pole. They were beautiful. I can email you a picture with it if you like (afutch@gbbt.org). Another idea we used is to give everyone an oscar. A toy action figure painted gold and glued to a black upside-down cup. We also put a gold label on the cup for what they did---or just their name. We also took pictures when they were walking down the red carpet and sent them to the local newspaper.
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted April 8, 2004 Hi, Last night I somehow ended up on a great website called Making Memories 101 I found alot of interesting things on this site, one of them being a link to poems. I have never seen so many poems in one place. Have a look at the Mother's Day Poems there are lots of them. :hammer: Be sure to check out the May Calendar while you are on Making Memories 101 site. You just may find some inspiring activities. ;-)
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted April 17, 2004 Mother's Day Arts & Craft project… Use a daisy &/or sunshine template look for a childs coloring book that might have one in it. Copy it on to yellow Xerox paper. Make enough copies for all the residents doing the activity. Have the residents glue the flower or sunshine on to a piece of cardboard, something like poster board, or any other type of light weight cardboard. Color the picture template where appropriate (show the residents the colored picture of the daisy/sunshine) so that they where know to color &/or add lines. This step is optional. Cut the template out. Cut out a picture that will fit inside of the circle. (EX: picture of their kids, grandkids, something from a magazine etc..) Paste the picture into the sunshine or the flower. Glue a magnet or something on the back so that it can be displayed. Options: Residents can do one of each, sunshine & flower. Place their picture in one & their husband in the other. Make this and present to a new mom. Make one for a teacher or any special person/ event. Can decorate with glitter, sequins, noodles etc… Optional: Make a card to place with the finished product YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy When skies are grey You never know dear How much I love you So please don't take my sunshine away! gina 2 Report Share Posted April 19, 2004 Hi All! I came across this idea from a craft store site,I tried it and they looked so Cute !! You will need: 3 inch styrofoam balls Bunches of fake sunflowers(try different colors, red, yellow and orange look good) Directions: Cut the flowers to about a two inch stem then start pushing them into the ball, put them in very close to each other so that none of the styrofoam is visable.Keep doing this until the ball is covered. Then you can place in a small basket or tray. This craft is fairly inexpensive enough to make for all your ladies for Mother's Day or make enough to put on the tables for special occassions. ;-) gina
Guest Emily Report Share Posted April 5, 2005 Hey all! I need an idea for a Mothers Day lunch/brunch for our assisted living. Last year we had a bridal show after lunch and staff modeled their old bridal dresses and bridesmaid dresses for the residents and their daughters. I have to live up to that performance! Any ideas for something creative? What about the residents who don't have children?
Pennie 26 Report Share Posted May 6, 2005 Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby ......... Somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, "Normal," is history. Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct ... Somebody never took a three-year-old shopping. Somebody said! being a mother is boring ...... Somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver's permit. Somebody said if you're a "good" mother, your child will "turn out good." Somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee. Somebody said "good" mothers never raise their voices ..... Somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window. Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother. Somebody never helped a fourth grader with her math. Somebody said you can't love the fifth child as much as you love the first. Somebody doesn't have five children. Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books ....... Somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears. Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery ... Somebody never watched her "baby" get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back ...... Somebody never organized four giggling Brownies to sell cookies. Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married.... Somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings. Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home.... Somebody never had grandchildren. Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her...... Somebody isn't a mother. :-)

First Impressions 0 Report Share Posted May 9, 2007 Hey all! Just a thought but today in my Eleanor Roosevelt persona I hosted a coffee and cake party in a Janeville Wi assisted living facillity. Saturday I will be hosting a Mothers Day Tea party in Delevan Wi as Mary Todd Lincoln.
