Braydon 0 Report Share Posted April 18, 2005 Hi Everyone. I've been gone for a bit. But I'm back now, ready to start throwing out new activities. I just did one today after lunch that struck me earlier in the day. I got it together in a hurry, but it worked great! I called it ART HISTORY hour. I printed out pictures and stories about certain artists ( I happened to pick Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Botticelli). I taped the pictures to a white board, with the names of the paintings under them, and each artist had their own section. We talked about each artist individually, and then a little at the end on the history of the Louvre. I was so suprised by the crowd, and how intently they were listening. I used a pointer, talked loud, was very animated, made some jokes, and I got applause after it was all said and done. This may have been done before yes, but it was made enjoyable. And from what I've seen of other AD's in the area, no one takes the time to stimulate their mind's in that way. Bingo anyone?... Anyways, the AD Brigade is going to be all about technique's like this.... AD BRIGADE!!!! To Join email me at ADBrigade@hotmail.com
gina 2 Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 Hey Braydon, Great Idea!!!! I have been doing something very similar for years.I would get all the famous peoples birthdays or anniversaries at the begining of the month, then get all the info that I could find about the subject and have a whole activity on the subject. Example: In May, We have Katherine Hepburns Birthday on the 12th- I would get all the info I could about her on the net: pictures, movies biography, trivia, etc. We would go over all of it with the residents then end it with a movie of hers. The 8th of May- Coca Cola Day- In 1886 an Atlantic pharmacist ,Dr.John Pemberton, introduced his famous elixer for headaches. The medicine soon became Coca Cola! I used to have a taste test of different types of sodas with the residents, let them choose which one taste the best, and why? How would life be different if he never made that elixer and we had no soda? May 26th- John Waynes Birthday- Get the residents to pick their favorite picture of John Wayne, you would be suprised how many pictures are on the net of him. The Ladies loved him!!!! For free pictures of famous hollywood stars to print off your computer and such go to: http://www.classicmovies.org/gallery/blphotogallery.htm It does take alot of "outside" work to make the residents love going to Activities and to get them really involved. You sound like you love your job and have some wonderful ideas, Rock On!!!! Have fun! Gina :-D :-D :-D
