"Just finished up with the new survey process ... it was interesting and believe me , they do talk to every resident or visit the non verbal ones . There is lots of observation . They are really focusing on activities and resident council. No matter what , resident is right ! During council they focused on how to do a grievance and are they ok how normal resident council is ran. They do look at the assessments of the residents and see what they prefer . Make sure it does match ! Ie: resident likes to listen to country music on a personal Walkman . It better be happening during the observation . And it should be on the Care plan. Other than that , we got three citations : weight gain issue , not following Care plan cuz we didn’t get resident out of bed , and infection control (how they took protective gear off )"

From Facebook.. Cindy Dahn-Liukkoneny posted on NCCAP.org

They grilled the Activity department! They usually spend half a day with us, this time they spent 2 days! They asked a thousand questions about specific residents and had us pull up their care plans to make sure it matched what we were saying-it did! They did lots of observation-if it was on the care plan, it better be happening. If they need adaptive equipment, you better have it and be using it. DOCUMENTATION! The only thing they asked about that we don’t do is mark a resident’s refusal to attend an activity on the daily documentation. But our activities are ‘PRN’ in our system so we don’t have to chart refusals daily. I do however have it marked in their progress notes. They talked to the residents a lot!
