Stacy 0 Report Share Posted December 29, 2004 Italy - Have vases with spaghetti, or other kinds of pasta as table decoration. See if you can find some Chianti bottles (traditional Italian stawcovered flasks). The can be placed on the table too. You can make pasta jewelry with different shapes of pasta. Give them a pasta quiz - www.lapiazzaonline.com/pasta.htm That site has the history of pasta. Have them share the pasta recipies. Show a short travel video about Italy. Serve canoli's Mexico - Fiesta Have a build your own taco bar Make pinatas out of paper mache, fill it and smashe it. Make a Spanish word quiz. Have them guess the meaning of the words in English Make maraccas I like to reasearch the countries and do a quiz about it. I put it out at the beginning of the week, and then they bring it back by a certain time. Have lots of music that is related to each country. If you don't have entertainment get CD's. I haven't done anything with Alaska. Stacy
gina 2 Report Share Posted January 2, 2005 Hi Havenofrest, Stacey had some great ideas to share! For Alaska, How about serving snow- cones(or shaved ice). Have a Spelling contest, write ALASKA on a white board and see how many words they can get from the word. Then fill up a small plastic wading pool with ice cubes and water and then put small plastic ziplock baggies with small prizes( from the 99 cents store) in the water, then get some wooden dowels and make up some "fishing poles" and have your residents try to "Ice Fish" for the prizes. You could also dress the residents and staff up like eskimoes, have them all come to the party dressed in their best Eskimo garb, Give best Dressed prizes. You could also have a bobsled contest, make up a board with squares and a start and finish line and have residents roll the dice and move their sleds( make them up out of paper) and whoever gets to the finish line first wins. Have fun! Gina
bigchris 1 Report Share Posted January 14, 2005 International week. I do something simaler at my facility and I ask for recipes from our employees and residents from different countries. We then do a bulletin board featuring those selections with pictures. We have music and differnt programs for each country. With ours we do a whole month with a different area each week. I have found that travel agencies and embassies are more than happy to give you posters, music and other items for free. That should save you some money.
