deelconnie 2 Report Share Posted January 8, 2015 Hello everyone my name is Connie Deel I am originally from Kentucky but moved to Ohio 6 years ago with my husband to start a new church plant. I have been an activity assistant for 5 years . I am in the MEPAP1-100714 class I am in week 12. I have learned so much. Upon completion of this course I will become the new activity director for now I am the acting activity director assistant. I am looking forward to this new position. One of the challenges I face is getting new admits to participate in activities they seem interested when I talk to them but when I ask for them to come they refuse . Can anyone give me some ideas on how to encourage them to take part.
dawnlivesay 0 Report Share Posted January 10, 2015 Hi Connie, My answer would be its all about the approach. Think about this...You have talked, and know Mrs. J loves to have her nails painted. Its Tuesday morning and you know nail painting is going to go on after lunch. My thought would be, go visit Mrs.J in the morning. Excitement in your voice, say something like... "I was looking at a fashion magazine yesterday and I noticed all of the new spring nail polish have come out" "Do you prefer pastels or vibrant colors?"....... "I'm not sure if you had a chance to look at todays activities" We're going to be doing polish changes later today around 1:00" "It's going to be a lot of fun" "I'll stop back by and remind you later" Later, simply go to the room or area Mrs.J is at and say, "I was looking for you, lets time to go get our nails done!" I avoid the yes/no questions whenever possible. Ultimately it is up to Mrs.J, she can say she doesn't want to attend, but your making it way easier to avoid activities by asking yes or no questions. I usually just say "lets go" (with a smile & enthusiasm). Hope my thoughts here help
