AmyC 0 Report Share Posted December 5, 2004 I am currently a 3rd shift caregiver and the Activity Director position just became available and I would love to pursue it. I have five years of caregiving experience but feel that I would be more suited for this job. Any advise ? Thanks!

lllucas 0 Report Share Posted December 5, 2004 Hi, AmyC! :-) I agree. If you're interested in the position...give it a try. The opportunity doesn't come along that often. It's a wonderful job with a lot of responsibilities...and a lot of rewards. So, if it's in your heart to become an Activity Director, go for it! Also, you can find a lot of help right here at Activity Directors Network. This is a very active site that is overseen by Activity professionals who have been at it for a long time. The answer you need to just about any question you may have or any resource you are looking for can be found here. Don't be afraid to ask, vent or respond to anything on the message board. We've all been there and have experienced many of the same frustrations and blessings of the job. We are with you. The very best of wishes, Linda Lucas, AD ;-) The Activity Director's Office http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com
gina 2 Report Share Posted December 5, 2004 Hi Amy, I agree with the rest of the gang here, I say if you truly want the position, GO FOR IT :-P !!! I have known many people in this buss. that have been certified as Activity Directors, Social Service Directors, etc. with tons of experience and education that really didnt enjoy working with seniors and you can tell.It takes a very special type of person to fill this position and you sound like you would be great at it and as an added bonus, you already know the residents. :-D Make sure you mention to the boss that you are a member of the Activity Directors Network and you have plenty of resources to work with and to network with (just ask us & we will help ya at! ;-) ) GO FOR IT!! gina :-)
Guest Guest_AmyC Report Share Posted December 6, 2004 Thanks to all who replied. I'm just about to sit and write my letter of intent. I'm hopeful that I will be considered. I just don't feel I'm working to the best of my ability on third shift. Wish me luck!

Guest Guest_AmyC Report Share Posted December 28, 2004 Well I guess it wasn't in the cards for me to get the job. I am still holding out for a daytime position but I really feel I'm just getting the run around. I want more of an opportunity to be with the residents and on third shift you don't. We'll see what happens. Thanks for all the support. Amy
lllucas 0 Report Share Posted December 28, 2004 Hi, AmyC :-( Sorry to here you didn't get the position. Just because you didn't get it doesn't mean you can't prepare for the future. You might check into getting your State certification for Activity Director. If you can get it then you will have more to offer when the next opportunity presents itself. Don't give up. All is not lost. :pint: Best wishes, Linda Lucas, AD ;-) http://www.theactivitydirectorsoffice.com
