janekowalski 0 Report Share Posted October 22, 2011 I have a couple of ladies on my AL side who are visually impaired but cognitively fine. Both are able to participate in our oversized card Bingo with some assistance, and both can get around the facility. We already have audio books & music available, but I'd like to get them out of their rooms more and participating in group activities besides Bingo. Are there any manipulatives suitable for both seeing and blind adults (who don't read Braille) and aren't cognitively impaired? I don't want to insult the ladies' intelligence. heavenstar 0 Report Share Posted October 24, 2011 Have you asked them what they would like? Some things that you could do: drum circles Aromatherapy reiki massages gardening storytelling computer classes-- using adaptive technology any trips that you go on can be beneficial to them Clubs or organizations: sewing clubs, residents councils, Veteran's club, widow's club, bible study, birthday club, welcome committee, exercise classes discussion groups current events Let them do the introductions at birthday parties, residents council meetings, program meetings. etc. Let them lead the book club Hope you can get some ideas from this. Most importantly, talk to them and see what they would like to do.

Some other suggestions: If you have any Guest Speakers that come to the facility, they would probavly enjoy this. Pottery -- As this requires more touch than sight See if they know how to knit or crochet - great for tactile sensation Reminiscing -- you can buy games that can help plan activites Group Disussions & Socializing -- coffee chat, afternoon tea partis Dominoes -buy the ones that have the indented spots
