I am doing the same thing - parallel programming - by utilizing volunteers so that more than one thing can be going on at once, or also, showing a movie while another activity is going on, or offering another activity when there is entertainment. aRBeRec 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2010 Do you have any residents capable of leading a group? I have had a resident lead a current events program and another who liked leading an exercise program.

We utilize volunteers to make 1:1 visits and also small groups for pampered hands. During worship service or other activity where there is alternate supervision a secondary group can be run. We also put out independent activities and play movies. Hope this helps.
caroletaylor 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2010 Hiya, at our home we have a cinema afternoon every Thursday. The clients have discussed favourite films and each week they choose what they want to watch. Most of the clients go in to watch the film and have popcorn and pop. The few that dont want to go in will do something else ( often a one to one activity). As people are all different, you will never get everyone to join in an activity...I dont like bingo now and still wont like it when im 80!!! We also have a 'quiet' lounge that has no tv, just a cd player. Several clients like this room and will sit and sing along to the music and dont need any supervision from the staff. This frees our activities co ordinater up to do something else with other clients.
scastillo66 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2010 See what I do is do an activity and for those who are not able to get out of bed or maybe sick that day I have my assistant atke a few items from the activity and she will go and do the same activity witht hem. Even though they were not able to physically be there they sill weere involved in the activity. Even the ones that really want to come and cant we just take that certain activity tot hem if they are not able to. They really appreciate that we think about them during their time of need of wanting to participate and they enjoy it!
